December 7th, 1941 is a day changed the lives of all Americans. It is the day Japan deliberately attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii killing many U.S. soldiers and destroying a lot of the U.S. naval fleet. This day which turned the tide of World War II, up until this point the U.S. had not chosen to intervene in the conflict overseas, but Japan’s attack had given the U.S. a reason to enter the fight. This speech given by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on December 8th, 1941 was his own passionate plea to the U.S. government and people to support the U.S. entering the war and fighting back against the tyranny occurring overseas. President Franklin D. Roosevelt effectively appeals to the emotions of the U.S. population by establishing trust with his audience through the use of emotional diction, and repetition which allow him to rally support for the war effort.

Nightingale was aboard a ship. He recounts, “The explosion rips the ship’s sides open like a tin can starting a fire that engulfs the entire ship. Within minutes she sinks to the bottom taking 1,300 lives with her” (EyeWitness to History). The attack only lasted an hour, but the families of 2,340 military personnel and 48 civilians (NPS) were changed forever.

Film industries began to show more war propaganda to show the American audience that the United States had a big impact in the war. Joe Creele created the CPI, which greatly influenced and controlled war media that was allowed to be seen by the United States citizens. In other words, some of the war films were to graphic to be seen by the public in which needed to be “filtered”. The primary effect of this was to give the audience a glimpse of how the war was actually played out. However, most of the film created was “acted” out which caused manipulation of the American society, for example towards the middle of 1916 film industries created war films that gave an “accurate” view of the war some of this propaganda would show an American soldier who was severely wounded killing four Germans with his sidearm, some believed it was not possible.
The U.S. formed the House of Un-American Activities, which checked just about every foreign person for them being a spy. This action made every foreigner a suspect. On top of that the HUAC would attack anyone in their way and claim it was justified because they feared the Communists invading their nation. So domestic wise the

One variable that echoed throughout America was propaganda. Propaganda was a major influence in the rally for overall support in America during World War II. The propaganda’s intentions in World War II can be broken down into three major categories: war efforts, Anti-German and Anti-Japanese backing, and homefront endeavors.
People lived in constant anxiety of America falling to Communist control. The fear of infiltration rose when Mao Zedong led Communists to take control of China as well as the Soviets detonating the atomic bomb. This caused the anxiety and fear to increase because even some American Scientists didn’t believe that the Soviets had the expertise to do so. American citizens began to believe that communist spies had been able to steal American technology. The detonation of the bomb started drills throughout America.
America treaded the path towards World War II with trepidation, until its people were convinced that action must be taken when the incident of Pearl Harbor occurred. From that point on, American citizens began mobilizing to aid their nation in hopes for victory against the Axis Powers. In order to keep up morale certain measures, such as the use of false advertising, were imposed. The influence of American propaganda during World War II led to an exploration of government authority through the use of censorship, exploitation of women, and incentive to contribute to the war effort.
Propaganda posters first appeared during WW1 (1914-18) when governments decided it was important to show their engagement with the public, it was also a method of enlisting men and selling war bonds in order to finance the military campaign. It was a time of war and this meant that advertising was used to attract war workers, volunteers and soldiers. One of the most notable posters was in 1914, which was an image of the Minister of War in the England with a steely gaze pointing his finger in an attempt to urge young men to enlist in the army. Every other country in the war then seemed to follow suite and use the exact same propaganda approach. In Germany a Reich soldier, pointing his finger patriotically or an Italian soldier doing the same.
With the help of propaganda posters, artists were able to motivate Americans, young and old, to contribute to the role of the United States in the war. Posters often contained children smiling and holding a war bond, with certain words like, “Buy a War Bond today”, or, “Support our troops by buying a War Bond”. However, they didn’t have to involve children. One famous example is “Uncle Sam”, used a propaganda poster to help persuade people to sign up for the draft, was originally published as the cover for the July 6, 1916, issue of Leslie's Weekly this portrait of "Uncle Sam" went on to become--according to its creator, James Montgomery Flagg--"the most famous poster in the world."
