When To Rebel Laws It’s impressive how an oppressive government is capable of manipulating society by enforcing rules called laws. Laws have been sought through centuries to maintain society civil and organized. However, the novel Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury sets a complete opposing definition of law. Hinting at how laws should be rebelled at some point in life. Throughout the novel, Guy Montag a fictional firefighter, is set to embalm flame upon anything ordered mainly books.
The government had a lot of regulations on the people in this society and because of that they lost their freedom to think for themselves and could only think what the government would allow them to think. They justified this because it made it so that no one would be better than any other person. They valued equality over individuality. In Fahrenheit 451 the government restricts the ownership and reading of books.
The government in Fahrenheit 451 censors the citizen’s reading material completely. The desire of the government is to keep all books out of the hands of the citizens. The firemen are trained to have that thinking too and to burn all books along with the homes that the books are in. “It was a pleasure to burn.”
In Fahrenheit 451 censorship is showed very differently. Usually firemen would be putting out fires, but in the book they start them. They would be called if someone is caught having books in their house, because having books is banned in their society. The books starts off with the line “It was a pleasure to burn”, stating how happy it makes them to burn books. The banning and burning of books creates a unhappy dystopian society.

As a fireman, it is Guy's job to destroy books, and start fires rather than put them out. After meeting a series of unusual characters, a spark is ignited in Montag and he develops a desire for knowledge and a want to protect the books. Bradbury's novel teaches its readers how too much censorship and control can lead to further damage and the repetition of history’s mistakes through the use of symbolism, imagery, and motif.
Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, is a novel about a futuristic society where books are banned and firemen burn books rather than put out fires. The main character Montag is a fireman who lives with his wife Mildred. Montag ends up stealing books which is against the law especially because he is a fireman; and Mildred is against anything that has to do with books. Society wants everyone to be happy but there 's an alarming mechanical hound in this novel that kills people and is asymbol of fear. Just like any books being burned in Fahrenheit 451, our government holds certain information as classified and does not let it out to the general public.
