The shows we normally view portray different groups of people in stereotypical ways. I watched different television shows to see how they portray people with disabilities. Some shows are more negative to people with disabilities than others. Kids start feeding of these ideas of certain people because of what they watch. If we are continuously exposed to stereotypes, that is when we starting putting people in different categories. On Oct 14, 2016 I watched an episode on South Park which was about disabilities. It was released in March of 2004. This episode was extremely negative about disabled people. I have seen the show before, but do not really remember it. This show did not portray disabled people as bad as South Park. The show had a kid named Artie who was handicapped. Even though he was in a wheel chair, he still danced and singed great. His character did not really have any stereotypes attached to him. The only problem with his character is the actor Kevin McHale not handicapped. There are many people who are handicapped that could have played that role. At the end of shooting the show, he gets to stand up and walk. What good is exposing that group of people if they are not played by actual people with disabilities? This specific group of people are portrayed as uneducated in negatives ways. These medias are showing stereotypes which is why we think the way we do. Shows only expose negative things about this group of people. This makes people who are not disabled think they are better in all shapes and forms. Stereotypes strips the power away from the groups of people they are attacking. With that, they are given less opportunities and privileges than others. Nobody really knows how bad a stereotype can affect a group of people. We need to get rid of these negative thoughts of people because we are all equally the
