Sally and Percy Jackson in The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, both have similarities and differences when it comes to their motivation to take action when faced with uncertainty. Percy uses his quick reflexes to conquer what he was feeling. On the contrary, Sally uses a caring personality to deal with uncertainty. Sally and Percy both put what is important to them first.
Percy jackson and the olympians lightning thief is the modern version of the Danus,Perseus and the gorgons using theme concepts,hero types and archetypes,hero's journey and plot structure. Having good vs evil and the prodigy. First,percy needed to find pearls to help get him self to the underworld to save his mom,He had to find all 3 pearls to get back or it would be hard getting back, In perseus he would do anything to help his mom. Percy was searching for the pears he ran into enemies like medusa,Perseus had to go find her because he didn't have a present to give her.
Motivations are things that can cause many actions and feelings. Percy Jackson and Grover from Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief conquer their feelings of uncertainty by having their own motivations. In Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Percy Jackson and his friend Grover, have different and similar motivations that cause them to take action in difficult situations. In Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Grover and Percy are similar in the way that they both want to save the world and return the symbols of power to their respective gods.
The Museum is where Percy discovers he is not a mortal , and during the trip his Latin teacher, Chiron, gives Percy a “pen”, which is actually a sword, and fights a monster called the Fury without realizing what the “thing” actually was. After the incident was over, everyone around Percy acts like nothing happened, so Percy pretends that nothing had happened either. Later that day Percy and his mom leaves for the beach, an annual trip that he and his mom always goes on. Throughout the beach trip a massive storm comes and Percy's friend Grover shows up, but not in human form, he shows up in his true mythological form which is a satyr, and tells Sally, Percy’s mom, that it is time to take Percy away now. So Percy, Sally, and Grover are driving to take Percy to the special place and Grover proceeds to tell Percy that everything he practically knows is a lie, that greek mythology actual does exist, that he’s a demigod, and that he is not safe where he currently is and has to go to Camp Half-Blood.
The first main event in Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief is when he first finds out he is a Half Blood. Percy Jackson first finds out he is a Half Blood when he gets attacked by is demon teacher. When he gets attacked by his demon teacher his Latin teacher Mr. Brunner saves him. After he finds out he is Half Blood Mr. Brunner takes
Imagine discovering that the Greek gods of myths and monsters are real, and you're the son of one. Well that is exactly what happened in the story “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief” as well as the movie of the same name. Percy was the son of Poseidon. And Percy knew the Greek gods and monsters and fought them. There are many differences in the book and movie however including that in the book Percy lived in his mom’s house while in the movie he had his own place in the woods;
In Hero’s Journey there are many stages one of them were confronting the father, this reminds me of Percy Jackson’s experience because he finds out his father for the first time. “My father? I asked, completely bewildered “Poseidon” said Chiron” (126) and in confronting the father “In many myths and stories this is the father,or a father figure who has life and death power”. The two quotes are aligned because Percy never knew his father and now he does and in Hero’s Journey it says that a hero meets a dad who has life and death power. That is why I think those two quotes align together.
Percy Jackson and the lightning thief is about the offspring of poseidon and a mortal, going on a quest with his friends to find Zeus’ missing lightning bolt. The bolt went missing and Percy Jackson is accused of taking it. This is an excellent book that was made into a film. Though the film was good it was very different from the book.
Furthermore, going back to the novel “Percy Jackson And The Olympians The Lightning Thief” in my previous essay for Percy jackson i mentioned how Percy jackson became full of himself after finding out he is the son of Poseidon, (me) saying this “In chapter one Percy jackson is all to himself and does not try to “cause” any trouble. As it states on page 5 “ ‘Mr Jackson,’ he said ‘did you have a comment?’ My face was totally red. I said ‘No sir’. In this part of the novel ( the beginning)
Odysseus returns to Circe’s Island, the goddess reveals his course and gives advice on how to avoid dangers he will face.” (P1071)(“Homer”) Circe changed her opinion on holding Odysseus for her own to help him go home this makes her a shapeshifter because she turned bad to good. Luke helps Percy at first by giving him the flying shoes and his favorite shield. Once Percy has made it out of the underworld alive and with the lightning bolt Luke was enraged when he saw that Percy was bringing the bolt to Zeus.
Percy Jackson is a dyslexic boy who gets in lots of trouble. He is an only child living in upstate New York raised by his and has ADHD. That’s not all now that Percy finds out he is a half-blood he is in danger, because he is accused of stealing Zeus Master bolt. Now Percy must go on a quest to return the bolt to Zeus, but on the way he will fail to save what matters the most.
“No road is long with good company” Percy Jackson learns this while on his quest to prove himself innocent. A secondary character in the Novel Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief that heavily brought value to the main protagonist was Annabeth Chase. In the novel Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, the quest to return Zeus’s Lightning bolt would undoubtedly go down as one of Percy’s greatest feats, but the journey would have been near impossible without the secondary character Annabeth. Making her value to Percy Jackson in his journey very great.
Percy has learned his role throughout the story as he journeys to bring back what was taken from his uncle (Zeus) to keep peace in the world. Some challenges was getting to know that he was son of Poseidon, being attacked by the three furies, and being betrayed by the ones he called a true friend to a King Titan
Percy is a little ashamed that he has gone from the only son of Poseidon and a hero of camp half-blood to the brother of a monster, but in spite that he does care for Tyson. Tyson has to deal with a lot of disdain and inequality such as bullying him ignored him , from the students at the school he attends with Percy, from the other monsters, from the half-bloods at camp. But he is unlike any other monster, he has a really pure heart. He didn’t feel ashemed of his brother eventhough his face is cylopes. He loves Percy, loves his father and believes when he prayed to Poseidon for a friend he was led to Percy.
Throughout “The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan, the main character Percy Jackson grows in many ways. Through application of Joseph Campbell’s Hero Cycle, Percy’s development as a leader over the course of “The Lightning Thief” can be analyzed (Campbell). Percy is born into the hero’s cycle at his natural birth and his call to adventure is the attack by Mrs. Dodds. Percy crosses the threshold, when he leaves Montauk with his mother and Grover and the first trial testing his leadership is on the bus with the furies. Trials exemplifying Percy’s growth include: the furies, Medusa, the Saint Louis Arch, the “Waterland” Waterpark, the Lotus Hotel, Crusty’s Waterbed Palace, and Hades and the Underworld.
