Permissive Parenting Style In The Movie 'Jane'

Another underrated, but interesting character in this movie is ‘Jane’, a twelve year old girl whose mother is ‘Amy’. She loves playing soccer and has a high expectation to join a school soccer team. In the same token, she is very ambitious because she pays too much attention on studying and thinks that participating in soccer team will clear the route for her to easily get into an Ivy League College when she is just only twelve. In the same time, she has a tough time knowing that her family is not going to be the same anymore because her parents has divorced and risk to become a benchwarmer in the soccer team. This kind of parenting style is called ‘Permissive Parenting Style’. This method of parenting creates a little demon within her mind. Case in point, she blames her mom even when she does nothing wrong like when she made the team, but afraid to be a loser benchwarmer scrub so she just says to her mom that “Oh my god! I need to practice my footwork, why would you let me eat dessert, oh I know, because you hate me!” Most of the kids who are treated by Permissive Parenting Style tend to believe in the value of themselves because no one condemn them. Fortunately, she treats Jane from spoiling to let Jane do things by herself. Every day, her mom cooks her a breakfast, but since everything has changed, cooking breakfast is her duty. Furthermore, her mom decides to lead her to know the taste of life and pay attention not only to the school lessons but also real experience. The scene that her mom returns the car not to drop her at her extra class, but at a spa instead is a very good example. In that time, the ambitious Jane argue why but deep down in her mind, she is just the early teenager who is sometimes what to have some space to break the rules and relax. As a result, she starts to reduce her stress on school lessons, to joy a school soccer team rather than think that it will look amazing in her college
