Perpetuation Of The Noble Savage Analysis

Alex, I really liked your post. A few great points I want to hit on before diving into your questions. For one, the perpetuation of the noble savage is clear and paired with the idea of accepted culture of conquest really reminds me of the US ideal "manifest destiny". One line in the De Las Casas readings discusses who the indigenous peoples "must have known what was going on" when their culture was destroyed during conquest. This idea that they had a clue about the damage that was ensuing paints these people as complacent beings - when really they were skilled warriors, great farmers who lacked competitive firearms. Your question is complex. However, I think there is definitely a sense of spiritual power within the new world exploration.
