Persephone the goddess of the underworld, in my eyes is one of the most memorable love interest in a piece of fiction.

Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, and was kidnapped by Hades (Zeus and Demeter’s brother) Zeus was in on the kidnapping and even helped Hades decide when to do it. Demeter (the goddess of grain, agriculture and fertility) was so upset about losing her daughter that she threatened to make the earth barren forever and in the long run destroy all of humankind if her daughter was not returned to her. Demeter refused to accept Hades as a mate for Persephone and carried out her threat, and she did so for a year when finally Zeus stepped in not wanting her to kill off all of humankind so he sent Hermes to retrieve Persephone from Hades, when asked Hades handed over Persephone without a fess, but gave Persephone one pomegranate seed to eat. Persephone hadn’t eat a single thing the whole time she was held prisoner and was terribly hungry. Hades had tricked her though because anyone who taste the food of Hades must stay in the underworld. Rhea (the mother of Zeus, Demeter, and Hades) proposed a compromise that her children all unhappily accepted. Persephone would remain in the Underworld …show more content…
