As an inquirer, you are not just the person that asks millions of questions to the point that it is almost annoying. Gaining a deep understanding of most situations is the more valuable characteristic of an inquirer. Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi, is a graphic novel about Marjane’s childhood in Iran, during the revolution. Marjane best portrays the IB Learner Trait of Inquirer because of her consistent questioning of all situations and her deep love for gaining knowledge. An example of how Marjane exhibits the trait of inquirer is her deep love for acquiring new knowledge of all situations and circumstances. Throughout the graphic novel, Marjane continuously wants to know why things are a certain way, what can be done about it, and all of the information of every situation she hears of. One of the many examples of this is on page 32, panel 8. Marjane was not quite understanding her parents conversation about the recent situation. She instantly realizes this, which is very mature in it’s self for a young child to do, and vowed to read all the books she could. This example shows how Marjane is always looking to learn something new, even when she is not asking questions directly. Her consistent portrayal of the trait makes it the one that best fits her, but other people think it could be Risk-Taker instead. Marjane definitely takes risk in this graphic novel. However, the risk taking comes from her inquiry. Her inquiry provides her with the knowledge to take the risks, making Inquirer the more fundamental trait. When Marjane goes to the protests early in the graphic novel, she is taking a risk, yet she wouldn’t have began to think about attending the protest without her questioning.
