The theme off the story is successes of doing right and tragedy of doing wrong. The theme is oblivious after reading through the book. Wes Moore wrote in the introduction “our destinies can be determined by a single stumble down the wrong path, or a tentative step down the right one.” I believe this is what he is trying to teach us about humanity through his work. The book show both sides of humanity the dark side and when its at it best.
Themes in a story help to describe what the book is about. It does this in the book Night by helping describe what World War 2 was like for the Jews. It also helps to see what the people in the camps went through. My two themes from night are imprisonment and survival. The first one I will talk about is imprisonment, then i’ll talk about survival.
Louie Zamperinis story is one of perseverance, strength, and courage. The central idea of this book is to never give up and keep on going, even in the darkest situations. This novel explores many issues and ideas, but the one that stands out the most is the personal one. Laura Hillenbrand uses the themes of suffering and perseverance in the novel Unbroken to show how if a person believes he/she can do it, it can be done. In the second section of the book, “Unbroken”, the author talked a lot about the experiences of the crew that Louie was with when he joined the army. Louie ended up with Phil and several other men to form a crew with their plane, a B-24 model, which they named “Superman”. They were all great pals who went through thick and thin together, but they believed the chance of survival was slim. One day, they barely managed to get it back to home base on one mission when the enemy relentlessly attacked their plane. However, one crew member was beyond help and several more had injuries that rendered them unsuitable for battle, their plane was also unrepairable.

After the narrator invites Sonny into his home, the narrator paces around and considers searching Sonny’s room, but Sonny sits down for a beer and talks about his perspective on himself and the rest of the world. While he’s talking, the narrator notices Sonny “pressing the beer can between his hands” and, “afraid that [Sonny] would cut himself,” the narrator panics (Baldwin 144). The narrator, who was unable to protect Sonny from addiction, is kicking into high gear over something as insignificant as a beer can. This showcases how the author is now trying to do everything he can to keep Sonny safe, which means that he feels that his current efforts are inadequate. This creates an internal conflict between his desire to help Sonny recover from addiction and his inability to provide adequate help.
Delaney has laid out a perfect pathway for the readers to understand the theme. From the start of the story, Delaney, talks about the mistake the round character made, drunk with fifth cheap of vodka and half a gallon of orange juice.
