In order to find a happy ending, you have to go through hard times and challenges.Perseverance is what it is called.Perseverance is a universal theme authors use in texts because they know many people can relate to it. In the texts The Birthday box and Fox hunt this theme is used. The theme is developed in different ways .In the texts Birthday Box by Jane Yolen and Fox hunt by Lensey Namioka. Both authors develop the theme of perseverance through conflict , Word choice , Speaker and actions. In the first text, Birthday box, the message is that perseverance through life the best you can, even though the situation is hard you will find a happy way out. Even when people try to act happy. Someone close to you could be very sick, or maybe someone close to you has died. Everyone has been through these things. Maybe they were smaller problems, but Katie still knows how you feel. In the story, “Birthday Box” By: Jane Yolen, Katie goes through many hardships as a child. She loses hope, and all is lost. When losing her mother she finds a way to persevere through life remembering her mom's last words. The author of Birthday box, Jane Yolen, uses many word choice techniques to develop her theme. She uses repeated words such as hard, broken, lost , and sad to intensify the conflict which drives the story. Her mothers last words were “It’s you” which is repeated through the text. Katie remembers her words and it gets the box which leads to her finding out what her mother ment for it to be left for and her moving forward. The theme is shown by her actions.The theme of perseverance shows that enough will get you to a good
