Have you ever been in the wrong place at the wrong time? In the book Holes, by Louis Sachar, Stanley was. Because of that, he was sent to a camp for boys that had done crime. There Stanley had to dig holes for the Warden. The theme of Holes is perseverance because Stanley is escaping camp, taking risks, and surviving throughout the story. In the story, Stanley’s friend Zero ran away from camp. Stanley started feeling guilty because he was not going after him. “What worried him the most, what really ate at his insides, was the fear that it wasn't too late.
