People think perseverance is a drive fueled by the passion to reach certain goals or goal-oriented, but perseverance is a long-term commitment and a lot of discipline to improve our skills and performance through persistent effort. The Scar Boys by Len Vlahos is a wonderful example that having perseverance can push you to reach your goals. Through the use of character, situational, and symbolic archetypes, Len Vlahos develops the concept of “perseverance” by showing the group of companions always sticking together in gritty situations, and how they persevere through that moment. Ever since Harry and Johnny created their band, he has been rebelling and not caring about school and grades.“It was because Johnny cared and I didn’t” (Vlahos 53). His band was consuming his time after school, and he put forth more effort into playing guitar than homework and tests. Johnny was the leader of the group, but the band didn’t let his grades slip away. Harry started to identify with his band and was rebellious about school and other things, but he enjoys music and he’s scared about being bullied at school. He doesn’t like to be there at school, and he shows his attitude about it by slacking off and being nervous. Harry lies about applying to colleges and continues his music to escape from reality, but his parents still support him through the tough times. His parents hope that Harry will make the right decision and apply to colleges, but he is ignorant and doesn’t want to go to college. The band started out of thin air because Johnny brought up the idea to Harry, and he was all for it. They found a drummer named Richie and then got a quiet kid named Dave to play the bass. But eventually, Dave randomly decided to ghost his friends because the pressure of going on tour was too much for him. Then they held tryouts for a new bass guitarist, and that’s how they found Cheyenne. Right after finding her, they started booking gigs from all over town and then started booking concerts all over the east coast. Trials and tribulations did occur, but they found a happy place for a little while until Johnny lost his mind and decided to go back to New York from Georgia. They expanded their possibilities by a large margin because they thought they weren’t good enough to go nationally and only play at their small-town bars. They fled from their problems and faced them by only moving
