The widely admired 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln is known for preserving the Union during the U.S. Civil War and the emancipation of slaves. Lincoln is idolized by many as one of America’s greatest heroes for his outstanding impact on the nation and as the savior of the Union. As the war was ending, Lincoln’s Union forces had slowly but effectively pushed the Confederate South into compliance and his aim in battling the South had been to hold the Union together, but a cultural abyss remained between the Southern states as they were forced to reunify and Northern states as they increasingly stumbled in their resolve to vanquish the Confederacy. In Abraham Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address, he lectures about a divided nation and attempts to create a spirit of national unity and forgiveness and uses a variety of rhetorical strategies when doing so.
I stared in awe as I saw the glistening field. The sun was shining bright and there was a fresh breeze that filled me with all the hope a six year old could have. It was a perfect day, the kind of day that would have made Picasso paint. I remember the going to the clubhouse after games going to the all star game to see my godfather who happens to be one of the best dominican baseball players to ever play the game, Vladimir Guerrero and to top that off his son Vlad Guerrero Jr. is the top MLB prospect for the Toronto blue jays going into this season. Baseball is my life and I will die playing the game as long as I can. Currently In my baseball career I have accepted a scholarship to play baseball at the university of illinois urbana champaign, I am one of the top players in the country, and I am talking and getting looked at a couple MLB teams to be drafted out of high school and go straight to the
Baseball has brought me so much happiness to me and without it I wouldn’t be able to live. Last year during middle school baseball we won the champion ship and I was proud of our team. This year I mad the team , but games don’t start till march.
For the last eight years, softball has shaped my life and taught me many things about leadership, sportsmanship, and how to work as a team. Softball has always made me happy, it’s not just the sport that makes me happy, but it’s the place that I get to go and the people that I get to play it with. Every time I’m on the field or in the cages I feel the most content. The softball field and cages are my sanctuary.
Every year you join a team with at least one person you don’t know. Nate Jakobs, a varsity baseball player and enthusiast said that in team sports, you have to work together to win games, and the trust formed while playing forms into friendships. Friends are important because they keep you happy and help you do what you love. I have made many friends from playing on the same baseball teams. You can make lots of friends from playing baseball!
Being involved in sports teaches vital life lessons that will promote you to overcome challenges you endure in everyday life. The passion and leadership required in the sport of softball reflect the qualities to be successful in my education. My life-long experiences in softball have helped me develop into the person I am today in pursuing my academic career. Through my background of being highly committed to the game, taking on leadership roles and balancing academics with athletics it has prepared me for college. Softball is very meaningful to me and is one of my main commitments.

Playing baseball is something that would show up on a college application but its importance in my life can’t be overstated. Baseball has taught me many life lessons as well as opened doors that wouldn’t exist without it. The people that I have met, the coaches who have taught me the game, have all had a profound impact on the player and the person that I am today. Baseball has changed my life completely.
