Have you ever wondered about the greatness of many teams? Have you ever understood the struggle and adversity the Oakland Athletics have faced or the fame and fortune of the Los Angeles Dodgers? Both of these teams have great histories and have some definite differences. The start and the position has helped one team and hurt the other. Both teams can be compared together and contrasted apart.
With today’s media coverage a wide array of outlets are covered, including sports. There are various amounts of sports television channels, websites and magazines all of which cover an abundance of sports. In baseball everything is broken down play by play and into statistical information. Two of the biggest outfielders in today’s game of baseball that draw an interesting comparison are Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees. Although they play for different teams in two different divisions I have discovered that they share their own similarities.
The late Red Barber who was the voice of Cardinal baseball said that Rickey's decision to integrate baseball, a plan which began in 1943 was born out of a combination of "idealism and astute business sense. " The death of commissioner Landis, a know bigot in 1944 hastened desegregation as well. The Dodgers were the first team to hire a full time statistical analyst and pioneer what is know as sabermetrics in baseball which placed greater value in on base percentage over batting average alone.

Is it smart for the Red Sox to try to sign David Price this offseason? There is lots of spiculation on whether the Red Sox will shoot for the all star pitcher but there is no answer currently. He is a very skilled pitcher and has had many all-star years in his ten year career. David Prices contract is expiring after this season and the Boston Red Sox lack pitching. Although he is getting older and his skills are decreasing, he would be a strong pick up for the Boston Red Sox.
Positional hitting data provides good insight to the difference in hitting between a pitcher and a DH. In 2015, NL pitchers hit 0.132, while AL DH's hit 0.264 (“Page”). In terms of WAR, NL pitchers were worth -1.2 WAR in 2015, and AL DH’s were worth 21.5 WAR (“Page”). This data shows that using a DH improves offense, which is important because low-scoring games make baseball boring. The impact of the DH on AL offense has been felt ever since the DH was introduced in 1973.
“The feeling of longing for home is born into us. That wonderful dream cannot become real without great faith. ”-Henry B. Eyring. This is how both Shorty in Baseball Saved Us by Ken Mochizuki and Andrew in Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting feel. Baseball Saved Us by Ken Mochizuki is about a Japanese-American boy-nicknamed Shorty- and his family who are forced into a camp with other Japanese-Americans during a time of war between America and Japan.
Because self-made men and the American dream are praised so heavily in the United States, we rarely give luck its due credit. It’s strange and unsettling to think that something is completely beyond our control. People reject this idea so much so that Voros McCracken, the pioneer of DIPS theory, received endless hate mail for suggesting that luck played a role in baseball. Posted late at night on a low traffic website, his theory that pitchers had little effect on allowing hits revolutionized the entire sport of baseball. He noticed that defense-independent pitching statistics (DIPS), like strikeouts, walks, and home runs, stats that don't involve a team’s defense, have an extremely high correlation from year to year.

The Black Sox scandal was soon laid aside as the expansion of the social world of baseball continued to expand. Major League Baseball created a farm system allowing owners to hire players, at a lesser salary, to be groomed in the minor leagues. The farm system gave more young men exposure and allowed the team owners to groom undeveloped players into major league players. Players in the farm system had each other for support; only they understood the burning desire to break into the major leagues. Many of today’s elite payers got their start in the farm system playing in the minors before moving up to the major leagues.
To motivate his players intrinsically, Beane would have to do the likes of keeping players into the game whether it was to give them playing time, make practices more desirable, show belief in certain plays, or even make the locker room soda machine free to the players. All these different motives, whether intrinsic or extrinsic, aided in the players of the Oakland Athletics having a good season and in result, instilling belief in the “Moneyball”
After the Miami Marlins fired Ozzie Guillen, MLB has just four non-white managers in its ranks. While there is a higher percentage of white players in MLB and certainly fewer black players in baseball than the NFL the number of Hispanic and Latino players would lead one to believe that MLB teams would find cultural diversity an asset in a manager. As the game gets more global, that diversity has yet to fully resonate within the managerial ranks. The mission statement on the Minor League “To promote the game of baseball while providing affordable, fun, family-entertainment to all members of the diverse communities we serve. We achieve this by fostering an inclusive environment that provides ownership, investment, management, employment, business-to-business and fan participation opportunities that are enhanced and supported by grass roots initiatives focused on education, citizenship and leadership among our youth”.
It was a show of power several years ago when the Major League Baseball (MLB) players ' association went on strike in September just before the World Series started. The MLB player 's association had more power during September just before playoffs than they would have had at any prior time because this is the time where the owners would be financially impacted. This source of power was thanks to reward power which is the ability for employees (in this case the players) to have leverage of their boss (the owners) due to the ability to influence the owners pay as well as being able to influence fan perception. When the players strike there is the chance that fans will become disgruntled and not attend games will not watch as often, and
For a young baseball player one of the highest goals to achieve is hitting a homerun -for me that was all I wanted. I already achieved most of what I wanted in baseball, and one of my proudest was a no-hitter, but it was no home run. When I first realized how bad I wanted this feat was one night after a practice where all we did was just hit. The majority of my teammates hit at least one homerun that practice, but me I hit the fence but never was able to send one over. The car ride home after the practice was horrible, I was a mess.
