The environment in which a person is raised in is basically the fundamental building block of that individual. What a person is exposed to in their earliest years of life usually defines that person’s character. Similarly, many factors have influenced me into becoming the person I am today, from my community’s unique culture, to my quiet neighborhood, to my family’s morals.
To begin with, the city I was born and raised in is located on the Mexican-American border, so that heavily played a role in the molding of my character. The people in my community are mainly Hispanic, myself included, so there is always a deeper sense of unity even with strangers. Spanish, my first language, is widely spoken in my community, and being able to speak a foreign language in an English speaking country is something that I value everyday deeply. As a matter of fact, my parents only speak Spanish, so I had to continuously practice the language throughout my lifetime despite the fact that I could only speak English at school. When my mother became pregnant with my little sister, my parents were able to muster up enough money to buy a home in a quiet suburb, and they could not have made a better decision. My two sisters and I were able to play safely outside everyday with all of our neighbors, both our elementary school and junior high school were within minutes of our home, and in the burning summers, we were able to take a dip into our backyard pool. Most of the surrounding homes were inhabited by families similar to ours, so there was never any conflict between neighbors. The area I was privileged to grow up in was an incredibly family oriented one, and I hope one day I have the opportunity to raise my children in a tranquil subdivision similar to my current
