Dear 5th grade students, I think you should go to Scicon cause it 's fun and educational and is a one in a lifetime thing. If you don 't go to scicon you will miss out of a week of fun. Scicon is a save place to be and fun at the same time. You will go on hikes and learn things about nature. You also get to meet people and make good friends.
Over the course of that semester we struggled with some of the more challenging concepts
While taking AP Physics Mechanics, I had a teacher who taught strategically, leaving out critical information that would be on an assessment so he could teach it after people fail. After bringing most of the class down to a 50 percent average, I began to panic. I couldn’t believe that I was so behind; therefore, I decided to meet with my teacher, not asking for pity but for tips on how to prepare for these seemingly impossible tests. He confessed he is full of tricks, so I developed a coping method. I perceived the class as a game where I jump over every hurdle to win.
Time spent during the day in class whizzed by at lightning speed as they dreaded the final
The last thing that challenged me was getting to know about the other races and how they have completely different views that I myself. I was never a person to even grasp anyone’s view other than myself, but this class has helped me become better at listening
When I started my senior year of highschool, I was ecstatic to tell all my friends that I didn’t have to suffer through the horrors of a math class. I was finally free! Instead, I am taking four music classes, among them, AP music theory. On the first day I realized I had made a grave mistake-- Music is nothing but math!
It all happened on what I thought would be a fantastic day: the 1st Annual University Interscholastic League A+ competition. The very event I had trained for. The opportunity that would let me earn some academic recognition. I had prepared for months then, going to after-school practice and spending hours of my time memorizing and learning. Of course, I still broke the rules, and paid the price, but at the end of the day, I gained something out of all of it.
A challenge that I over came was tossing a flag in the Color Guard. I had to learn how to toss my flag from my teacher Mrs. Tomas. She had to teach me how to toss it high enough, so I can prepare to catch it. She had taught me how to toss it right so I can catch it and not hit anyone, and I had to practice a lot, so I can learn the moves, and do them right. It was hard, but I caught on very fast.
Have you ever thought you were a failure, when you exceed expectations? Have you ever succeeded in that which you felt you would fail? This verse from The Dhammapada demonstrates that it is foolish to expect yourself to be wise when you do not know you will be for certain. "The fool who knows his foolishness, is wise at least so far. But a fool who thinks himself wise, he is called a fool indeed.
Another thing that was involved in this class was we had a schematic and we had to make a circuit from it. It was really easy for me but the other kids were struggling at it so I helped them in including the high school
To this day it shocks me that the College Board could make us sing for a grade. Not play an instrument, but read notes off of a paper, into a tape recorder, alone in a room with only a proctor and a microphone. While the scope and goal of the class still slightly evades me to this day, the anger I felt towards AP Music Theory has long since evolved into something different, acceptance. I had been convinced by my peers that having played the piano for seven years was enough to ace the class. In their defense it did give me a good place to start.
My grade in this class last semester was a C and it wasn’t sufficient. If I had done my work correctly, on time, and complete I know I could’ve got a better grade. Doing a sport is what made my semester difficult, I didn’t use my time wisely and have a schedule set for school and playing a sport. I could’ve stayed after school or stayed in from lunch to help me catch up on my work, but instead I decided to go out to lunch and spend time with my friends.
The next question I asked was, what is the biggest obstacle you have overcame. “Taking AP Chemistry, I really struggled and was failing at one point. I knew I had to do better so I really challenged myself and asked my teacher for help, started going to tutoring after school, and studied more. I ended up with a B in the class”, he said.
Class get out your math homework and set it on your desk so we can grade it as soon as soon as we get back from lunch, then get in line.” My teacher explained So, I’m heading to my desk to grab out my paper, I opened my binder and searched through my unorganized folder and I start going through the hundreds of papers thrown into the folder. I’m as nervous as a mouse in a room full of cats because I can’t find my homework anywhere. Oh no! I thought I left my paper on the kitchen counter while I was trying to finish it last night.
In the beginning the intensity surprised me and I did not do as well as I would have liked to. Instead of giving up, I decided to commit more time every night, work harder and get help for the topics. I did not understand. I wanted to prove to myself that I had what it takes to be as successful as I wanted to be. I turned a class, that I thought I would never pass, into a grade I was incredibly proud of.
