Personal Narrative Analysis

Going into the summer before my senior year, I got my first job. I became a Sales Associate at DSW. The experience was different from anything I had done before. I was nervous about the interview, and that ended up being the least stressful part. Whereas the my first day at work, had to be one of the most stressful events of my life. I progressed from childhood to adulthood because I learned three essential elements of adulthood: accountability, self-reliance, judgement. I am accountable for all actions during my shift. I remember one very meaningful example of me being accountable while at work. It was almost closing time on a Saturday, and I was finishing up a customer's transactions. I said “Thank you, and have a good evening!” Everything was fine at the moment. But Sunday morning when I woke up, I remembered that I forgot to remove ink-tags from several of the customers shoes. This is my example of judgement. Everyday while at work, I help many customers. Most are very friendly, and some even acknowledge my efforts to help. In contrast, there are also many customers who are irritable and impolite. These are people who become difficult to deal with. In the past, I may have done things such as become disrespectful and rude towards their actions. But now, I am required to handle the situation in a professional manner, much different from previous attempts at the problem. In most situations I can continue to aid the customer in finding the right product, while ignoring their rude comments. But in the most extreme situations, when I have to request my manager, I always establish a professional conversation to explain the issue and why I could not resolve it. This shows my increased judgement skills that I have learned while progressing from childhood to adulthood, allow me to assess the problem with a customer, ignore their incompetence, and still provide quick
