The Intro
Lights of different shapes and colors appear across your dash and your vehicle is making odd noises and smells. The questions run through your head of what it could be, how much will the fix cost you, who will you go to? You know nothing about cars so what do you do? I used to ask the same question when I started driving my own car. I knew nothing about what was under my hood until the day I watched my new Oldsmobile Alero get new tires at Discount Tire and Service. I saw the tools, computers, and the dirty hard working men fixing all types and sizes of vehicle with all types of problems. This shop gave me my basic idea that all Auto Mechanics were slightly unintelligent, dirty, and greasy men that had no sense of organization. They wore thick boots, jeans, and tshirts, with the occasional mask, gloves,and jackets. They dragged their feet and slouched when they walked. I remember the sight of tools everywhere laying all about on the floor, tables, and tool racks. Nothing was in its correct place. Grease covered rags laid on the tables in the small crowded waiting room. Outside of the shop tons and tons of broken down vehicles sat for as long as I can remember and were never worked on. With these three different types of mechanics I can show how many opportunities there are for younger people to get a job in this field right away, for adults to get and keep jobs in this field, and how much money you can save and time doing things yourself. I also want to show how hard this job can be by going in and doing things myself. I plan to visit three different shops including Discount Tire and Service, Les Schwab Tire and Service, and my Jeep friends
