Personal Narrative: Blue Grass Music

Have you ever caught yourself tapping your foot or your hand to the beat of an “Old Timer Song,” or a “Blue Grass Song?” If so, you must enjoy this type of music. I think this is an enjoyable activity for everyone.

First of all, this is an educational, but fun, activity that everybody should try. There are different instruments you could learn to play, and you get to play on the instruments you choose. Listening, playing, and creating music is some of my favorite things you get to do! I learned how to play the Dulcimer and the spoons, and figured out what the lumberjack is.

During Intersession, I took this class and I loved it. We got to meet a famous banjo player and he told us about were the banjo came from, how it was made, and what improvements has been made to the banjo over the years. You probably got the hint where the music came from, but have you wondered “why,” or “how” the music started? The music started back in the 1800’s when settlers came from different countries to find someplace to live and have a family. Most of them were the Carter family, but people from Africa even came here! All these people from different came together and made homes, grew crops, and did everything they needed to do. Before long they got bored and they were tired of doing the same thing all day. So, they brought out the instruments that they forgotten about because they were too busy doing work.
