“Ivan staggered a few yard, then stopped at the stone wall that surrounded his house, and bent over. A swell of nausea rose from his gut. His diaphragm jerked tight, and he vomited. Good Run. Damn Good Run.” (Martino 7) Sounds pretty intense right? That is the mindset of both Ivan and Bobby to become state wrestling champions during there senior year of high school. They both are aware of each other but don’t know how each other wrestle. They both face hardships from coaches, friends, and family and are expected to reach everybody’s expectations. I like his mindset because although he is not the superior wrestler but it doesn’t stop his drive to win and work hard. I think that he is ready to do what ever it takes in order to win. He has showed this after his first tournament of the season he had lost in the semifinals and thought to himself, “He had to face the defeat, than put it behind him. Later he would watch Korske win in the finals. He would get his chance at him, down the road. Down the road, at Jandwin. Coach Messina had told him so.” (Martino 99) After that tournament he tells himself that his only goal for the season is to beat Ivan Korske and he is ready to alienate all of the negligible goals everyone else has for him. Because of Bobby’s hard work I think that I can predict how his season is going to go.
I predict that bobby is going to become the state champion and beat Ivan. I think that Bobby will win because of his will to work hard. I think that Ivan is too cocky about how good he is. He cocky because he knows that he is good and doesn’t think that he has to work as hard as before because he is that good. He shows this by harassing the freshman wrestlers as if he is the only star wrestler. “ Kid I don’t need your life story, your not going to be here long enough for it to matter” (Martino 21) is what he said to the freshman wrestler he was picking
