When I was was younger, I was a caterpillar crawling around trying to get through life, waiting to turn into the beautiful butterfly I know I could soon become. I made good decisions along with bad ones, saw the beauty in life as well as the unpleasant. I was like everyone else trying to be their own person, but now as I look at myself in the mirror I can finally see who I really am. I see myself as the beautiful butterfly I once dreamed of becoming, ready to fly down my own path. I have been in my chrysalis and I am finally out and ready to fly into my bright future.

When I started Unity High School I thought that it was going to be boring school because my first choice was Skyline but my mom made me come to this school so I had to obey what my mom wants because she takes care of me and helps me with whatever I need help with so going to the school that she wanted me to go to was the least I could have done. I thought that high school was going to be difficult because the work that my brother would bring home when he was in high school looked really hard and I did not understand most of the work he needed to complete. But I realized that I need to be taught the material before I go on and do the work
My primary goal for attending college is to be financially fit and also use the knowledge I’ve gained to help underprivileged youth achieve their goals. I come from a poor background where I have struggled to make ends meet. I didn’t receive any scholarships to attend college after high school so I skipped it. The cost of college is a burden that I couldn’t have taken. I used the motivation of when I took time away from school surrounded by people in situations I never wanted to be in.
Through the experience of working as youth leader for freshman connection I have grown as a better leader. To help incoming freshman was incredible experience for me. I joined freshman connection to serve school and defiantly to get knowledge and team building skills out of it, so that it can help me make my college experience better. I think I have achieved all the goals that I wanted to through working as youth leader. Additionally, not only that but also to work on community service project on bullying has really allowed me to serve as teacher helper.
In my freshman year, I made a choice to relinquish some of my social life and replace that time giving back to my community. I joined a non-profit organization called the Volunteer Corp. We spent our time at food banks, park clean-ups, and even hosting local events. This experience left a lasting impression on me in many ways; however, one experience changed my perspective on life and serve as a constant reminder of how the smallest contribution to others can be the most powerful. St. Joseph University, in Philadelphia, held an event called Hand in Hand. It was an event dedicated to raising awareness for people with physical and/or developmental disabilities.
To me, this comes in the form of attending APU’s Educational and Clinical Counseling program and pursuing a career that allows me to demonstrate my ability in helping others achieve their goals. The rigorous design of this program will be a challenge to my academic grit and a testament to the skills I developed during my three years as a UCR undergraduate. The teachings and standards of this program will serve as a means of evaluating my professional experience after dedicating the last four years to supporting low-income students of color in a school environment. Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have also grown as a person by developing my conscientious, agreeable, and inquisitive personality traits that allow me to create healthy relationships and remain optimistic for the future. My academic, professional, and personal characteristics have revealed a road leading to APU’s Educational and Clinical Counseling program and I wish to materialize my vision alongside this
After graduating, college was something that was expected, it didn’t matter where, it just mattered that I went. My parents were always supportive about going to college, but they never really pushed for specific college. I never knew the value of getting all A’s on a report card, or getting into a prestige school. I was out of touch with what I really wanted to do with my life, until I met my psychology professor, Mike Pinney. He had all the passion I lacked, and made psychology a subject I grew to love.
“The journey doesn’t start at the beginning, but it begins at the end.” The last year I had at Lionville Middle School was only the start of my long career and I was properly prepared by all the teachers and staff that helped me on my journey. When I first arrived at Lionville Middle school, I was scared about the environment and it was the first time that I had to switch classes for every different subject. I had numerous friends from Lionville Elementary School that came to the Middle school with me and aided me in the tough transition to such a populous school. I did not transfer to this district
I graduated back in 2013 from a pretty decent school district. During high school I wasn’t an A student or a B student, I just did what I needed in order to pass. Once I got to my junior of high school I started taking things more seriously, I started making A’s and B’s. Once my senior year started the pressure was on. Everyone asking “what college are you thinking about attending?”
Being a first generation college student was a big challenge for me. A new life ahead of me had just started, it was like a new book with a new page on it. I started off going to community college which was such a big impact in my life, I was able to learn many valuable things that at the beginning I wasn't prepared for. I want to make a bigger impact not only for my self but for others as well. I want to motivate people that no matter what gets in the way, or the circumstances we are facing, we can all fight for what we want.
For my fifth campus engagement I went to Ethnic Student Promoters club meeting. The meeting was held in Gilchrist at 8pm Tuesday, April 18. I have never heard of ESP until Shar messaged me about it on facebook. She told me she wanted me to come, but I was really scared at first. ESP was the first club meeting I had went to at UNI.
Sometimes people are born where they are not wanted. For these children life just always seems to be a big wait, waiting to turn eighteen, waiting to finish high school, and while you wait for life to throw you a bone a feeling of uncertainty starts to creep up on you. Waking up everyday to do the same thing and you get so tired you don 't want to wake up anymore. This is how every day start and ends for me. Some activities, like jogging or reading, can ebb this feeling to a degree where it seems bearable; but it wasn 't until I filled out Boston Universities college application that I felt something new, this feeling I identify with hope.
The first half of this semester was swift and I can’t believe how fast it passed by. College is a whole new world for me that I had never imagined with a lot of new experiences that I hope will shift me into a better and smarter person. There are more things I can do in college that I would have never dared to do in high school and I am happy for these new freedoms. I am able to eat in class, leave class without asking and they don’t care if I pay attention or not. My high school teachers would always tell me to wait for the bell, sometimes would not let me leave and if I did not pay attention they would yell.

However, as I continue going into high education and my college journey, countless obstacles continue to hinder the dreams and aspirations of many individuals. As a first-generation Asian-American college student, I have faced numerous challenges, particularly the financial strain that threatens my educational journey. Guided by a passion for healing and service, I aspire to pursue a career in medicine. However, financial constraints have posed a significant obstacle to my path to achieving this dream.
