At that time there was a head coach and I served as the assistant. Halfway through the season the coach stepped down putting me in charge of forty girls not that much younger than I. It was difficult to gain respect from the older girls because they had cheered with me the year prior, and saw me at the same level as them. I knew I had what it took to be a good coach for all of these girls, but I had to work hard to prove that to them, and that’s exactly what I did. I was confident and believed in myself enough that they began to look at me as an authority figure, and we had a successful
The time I almost got cut from the basketball team.the first day of tryouts I didn’t come because I didn’t have my physical at the time.but when I got it I was there and lots of people were and only fifteen could qualify. On the first day all we had to do was shoot and show our form. But we did do something a little fun you had to get a partner and perform some moves on him. So the coach said “go” me and my partner which was Robert.
Summer was at full blast, Sunday league was starting and I was playing soccer every single day. I was ready for the next season of high school soccer to come and I was training myself to the limit because I wanted to be one of the best players on the field and to possibly be captain for varsity this year. This year was also the year our new coach, coach Jay was in charge of us because Olivier had left last year to to go to Michigan with his wife. Jay had already seen how well of a player I was because I played in his soccer club and immediately placed me in the varsity roster but as a defender and not a striker. The transition was difficult but I learned fast.
I sat down on the warm, silver bleachers with a plate of food in my lap. The junior varsity softball coach was about to start going through the participation awards for all the girls who played this season. I was eagerly waiting for the end-of-season awards to be announced. My name was called for the participation award, and I went up onto the dusty field to receive it. “She’s always had a great attitude, and she has been very supportive of her team mates.
I am Nick Drew, senior football player at Campbell University looking to one day become a Division 1 Football Head Coach. What I want in life is for my family and I to be happy and successful. I think those are two of the biggest, yet simplest things about life. If I’m happy and successful then I believe that everything else will fall into place. Along with my family being happy and successful I also want my players that I coach to be happy and successful.
Ever since I arrived at the high school, there has been one man that was my teacher, coach and friend when I needed one. This is coming from a person you really wouldn’t expect to be be this person in your life. Coach Minnich, Mr. Minnich, Ryan Minnich, (only off school grounds). The high school life has been a struggle, but he has made it a little easier. I met Coach Minnich the first day of football practice freshman year.
Baseball Narrative “Honey how are your ribs?” My mother asked me. “What happened?” My friend Ryan questioned me.
The first two tryouts came and I was fairly confident I would make the team, but waiting for that email was one of the most nerve-wracking times in my life. I was sitting in my bed, waiting for the email to show up. I was a river of sweat. My heart was beating while I opened the message; Congratulations on making the boys soccer team; I was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to start the season.
It’s here, it’s that time of year again where everyone is talking about who’s going to win or what will happen. I’m talking about football season. The time of year where I would usually be nervous as hell thinking about the game or mentally preparing for the game. However, this year is extremely different in many cases compared to the entirety of my life while playing sports. And yet, I actually discovered the most difficult thing that I’ve ever had to do which was quitting football for my senior year.
Coaching has many different fields that goes along with the job. For instance, there is baseball, softball, tennis, track, cross country, basketball, and football. All these different types of sports require coaches. Some of these fields of coaching require more practice, time, and patience than others. The most time consuming sport would have to be football, this would be a good job for people who have allot of free time.
More Than a Coach The most important teacher I have had was not in an academic setting. Mr. Larsen was my taekwondo coach for about 5 years. I trained under him since I started at the age of 8. I spent most of my childhood training with my coach and my other teammates.
As an in-coming freshman who hadn’t played on a school team in middle school, I was at a disadvantage because I was behind in skills and didn’t know many of the tricks. Fortunately, the coach saw my potential and I made the varsity team. My coaches and teammates continually pushed me and helped me become an even better player than I was before. Over the course of my four years on the team, I faced several obstacles that made me feel weak and inadequate, but to overcome them I reminded myself that I loved soccer. The biggest obstacle I faced was getting a concussion my junior year.
My first game was what I would call a beautiful disaster. I arrived at my first game and felt the pressure of what seemed like 100 eyes watch me . I stood out, I was not the same color as my teammates nor was I as experienced as them. This was the beginning of my journey and how I came to love soccer. Frequently, I was questioned by my brother and friends, “ Why do you play soccer only.
“Fhweeoooo! Halftime” , yelled the referee. Coming back from the field I knew that we were about to get a mouthful of yelling from Coach Vernon. Starting the game 0-2 in a championship game was not pleasant. “ WHAT WERE YOU GUYS DOING ON THE FIELD” , he yelled viciously. “ I want to see everybody on the field hustling and playing the game of soccer seriously so that we can bring home the trophy”, he said.
Adrenaline pulsing through my body and anxiety filling up in my stomach, I quickly throw on my football gear and head out to the practice field. It’s a nice hot day in Ocala, Florida, with the sun beating down on our necks, we stand side by side in line waiting to be picked to play second, third, or fourth string in a play. Waiting in anticipation, each of us grinding our teeth, watching first string pure athletes colliding against each other like gladiators to have possession of a ball made at one-time of “pig’s skin”. To some people, the game of American football makes no sense, whether it’s the idea of trying to protect a ball or running and passing it to make a goal for your team. People like this, see the concept of football and understand why millions of people love it; but to them the sport is pointless and causes way too many casualties.
