No matter where I am, I always find my way to the books. The worlds draw me in, I’m always attracted to imagining something, something other than my life. I thought that was normal, I never understood why others would tease me for carrying a book instead of a Mobile or a Tamagotchi.
“If only they knew the magic inside” I mumble to myself.
Everyone thought I was crazy, teenagers were mean, but I didn’t care I had all the friends I needed in books, nothing could tear me from the written world or so I thought.

It’s where we moved after she left my step dad, it backs right on to a lake that sometimes smells like rotten seaweed. It was supposed to be a holiday house back when we had money, now its our small fibro home. There’s only two bedrooms inside, so I use an old garage out the back as my room. I’ve read a few DIY books and I work on it when I can, I got a rug and a big grey arm chair from a garage sale and I put up fairy lights all around my bookshelves, I even laid some carpet. Sometimes I think she tells me all the bad things about her day on purpose to make me feel bad that way I’ll do more housework to help her out.
“Wow, that sucks” I reply even though I’m not really listening anymore
“I made dinner, its in the microwave if you’re hungry” I say as I walk out the back door to my room not bothering to wait for a thank you, it never comes.

The next afternoon, I was reading Great Expectations by Charles Dickens in the library and I was so engrossed, I almost didn’t realise school was finished! I was freaking out if I missed the bus Jesse would be waiting by himself for ages, I had to run full pelt to the bus stop.
I got there just in time, Id be lying if I said I wasn’t heaving for air by the time I got on... Embarrassing I thought as I waved my pass to the driver and panted all the way down the back to my normal seat before I realising it was taken…
“Ummmm why are you on my bus” I said with my head tilted to the left
Kristen sighed “I obviously moved houses nutty Nina, I live on Beaumont St now”
“Oh that’s the same street as me” I say in disbelief shocked to be having a half normal conversation with Kristen and well also shocked to be talking to anyone at
