Flight written by Sherman Alexie is told in a first-person narrative by its protagonist Zits. He is a 15-year-old half-Native American orphan. Zits has a long history of abuse by the people around him, self-esteem issues, and a long list of past delinquencies. As one reads the novel, it looks as though many of Zits issues stem from his father 's abandonment before birth and his mother 's death when he was six years old.
In her essay, The Stunt Pilot, Annie Dillard uses the art of language to convey her appreciation for another art form: the motion of flight. When retelling her time up in the air with stunt pilot Dave Rahm, Dillard purposefully starts off with a plain description of Rahm with vague details as to remind her audience how the man himself was not important, but it was what he did that was beautiful. Dillard then juxtaposes her impressions of being in the air by mentioning how the plane’s “shaking swooping belly seemed to graze the snow” (Dillard 91). Not only does this particular sentence express the emotions felt during the unforgettable flight, its subtle use of imagery also allows readers to envision being high up in the air, yet seemingly
The Reason I Jump Book Review “Imagine a daily life in which your faculty of speech is taken away.” (Higashida, page vii). The first thing I read while starting the book, “The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism” by Naoki Higashida, was the quote above. Right away it made me think of the first amendment, freedom of speech. In Higashida’s case, he did not get the freedom of speech because he did not get to speak at all.

and I almost made it to nationals but I had to be in the top five to go. I was so happy that I had actually accomplished something on my own. I didn 't even care that I didn 't get to go to nationals. That day I knew that I could do anything that I set my mind to I just have to work hard.
Deciding to go as soon a possible was a really good idea for me because I usually wait until the last minute. I feel like i'm a little ahead of my initial plan. It was originally for a standing and a roundoff back handspring but those are not the only skill I have gained, I have an aerial and i'm learning more. What I have learned
This quote relates to extreme sports because when you are doing extreme sports, you are most likely risking your life. And if not, then you are putting yourself out there to have a crazy fun time. It’s not like trying something new and easy out. For example
These people are overcome by fear. They are afraid to continue moving forward and taking risks. The quote itself can be translated into, an everyday person does not want to be happy and ambitious. That person will settle with what will keep them alive. I agree with this quote for a few reasons.
It is the feeling of capability and force run wild; the inclination that the world is a clam, and that in opening its harsh edges there is no compelling reason to nurture the hobbies or susceptibilities of others. A young person who has surmounted his instruction, gone out into the world on his own record, and made
People usually describe gritty as the the grittiness of the sand, the roughness and so on and so forth.but in order to have grittiness you need a growth mindset. Having grittiness means to me that passion for a long term goal. This question is often asked "How does being gritty help a person with a growth mindset succeed"?
(livingdeadGirl13). Basically, the author is saying that fear will contort the goals you have. This quote also demonstrates that fear is harmful if you let it take control. The author concludes that “Don’t let fear in. Don’t let fear take hold.”
Practicing cello allows me to become a better musician, but moreso a responsible and driven individual. It continuously reminds me that the most worthwhile achievements require hard work. Jazz is one of those achievements. Through becoming a technical and theory-driven classical musician performing in music competitions and in my region’s youth symphonies, I stumbled across jazz one day and was immediately drawn toward its intricate chord progressions and complex improvisations. A year later I performed for residents of a nursing home.
You’re standing with your back against the wall taking in short breathes so you don’t throw your balance off. Your equipment bag is just barely hanging on ten feet away from you, your eyes slowly move down to the dark abyss surrounding the thin gray line you can only assume is the bottom. Toes hanging over the tiny ledge you found and with every step the rock compressing letting you know at any moment you would find the answer to the question “what would hit first?” you or the rock. Would you continue to get your gear, feeling the rush through your veins, the turning of your stomach and the shaking of your body’s natural power coursing through you.
All things in life can be enjoyable but also unexpected. Everyone has their own natural high. My natural high is riding my dirt bike. Even though riding my dirt bike is fun, it can also be very dangerous. It is very important to always wear safety gear while operating an off-road vehicle.
I was never a fan of flying. It’s not that I’m afraid of heights or anything, it’s just the idea of flying. Launching up into the sky, by an airplane specifically, is quite scary, if you think about it. Just imagine every possible way something could go wrong. The plane could get stuck in a storm and crash.
