Unfortunately, due to the earthquake in Pakistan on October 8th , 2005, we had to move back to Pakistan since we had lost members of our family as well. The move back to Pakistan at that devastating time was very hard for myself and my family. My father enrolled me to a school in Pakistan since we were going to live there now.
As I going home that day, I keep thinking the reasons that may cause the car fail to move, It took me long time to figure out that the plate wheels are too big and heavy, so balloon don’t have enough power to move the car. I feel it can be the base of my car, so I take the tissues out of box and cut the box.
I found myself amazed by just how well it sounded. Nothing like the ear-piercing sound of a huge diesel truck, but it was the sound of joy of finally having the chance to call this car “mine”. It then came the chance to take her out for a spin. My heart thudded deep in my chest and I felt myself starting to sweat knowing that going too quick right off the bat would lead to a long day. I closely surveyed the area to make sure I wasn’t going to surprise any unfortunate people driving by, slowly pressed the brake down, and swiftly pulled back the gearshift into drive.
I rolled Devon in his wheelchair down to the parking lot to show him my new ride. The hospital always insisted on us using the wheelchair and was very strict about Devon getting up out of it when he was not in his room or in physical therapy. “Your mom got you this? Oh my goodness, it’s beautiful. How’s the sound system?” said Devon “totally bumping’.
It is 4:00am in the morning, and life begins anew in my household. Clothes are being laid out and breakfast is being cooked. The sounds of the morning begin to take shape. The coffee maker eschews the splendid flavors of coffee which engulfs the small apartment. These early mornings are followed by late nights.
During the early months of the new year in 2006, my paternal grandfather died of a streptococcus infection. At that time my sister, brother and I were too young to understand, but we soon began to realize that a part of us was different and missing.
