Personal Narrative: How Camp Jump Changed My Life

Last summer I went to a camp that changed my life forever. This camp that I went to saved my life. This camp was called Camp Jump Start, a camp in Independence,MO. The camp is a health camp for overweight kids and them learning how to lose weight and how to keep a healthy diet. Instead of the kids calling it a health camp, they just called it fat camp. This camp was opened in 2003 and the the people who started it (Jean and Tom) still work on the camp and live in the campgrounds. The only reason of me going was because my parents found the website and showed me the one hour documentary PBS did about the camp. After watching that, my decision was final.

The drive was one hour long and right before we got there my family ate at Firehouse Subs. For the first time in a long time, I savored every single bite of my sandwich. After that we continued driving and arrived and the camp. As we parked on the gravel we were greeted by a muscular, bearded man named Bart. Bart one of the camp staff members and was a fun guy to hang out with. After we got out of the car, Bart asked us if he could have our luggage. After he did we went through a line of health tests, measurements of body, and forms. After my family and I did that my brother, MOm, and Dad had to go to the cafeteria to have a special meeting with Jean and Tom. I had to stay outside and sit down awkwardly next to other kids. After the meeting was done, I had to say goodbye to my family. Then Staff members said to go inside to have dinner. I didn't want to disrespect the staff members or the food, so ate the dinner.
