Camp Texas changed my life, being an out of state student, I was all alone coming to UT, and Camp Texas introduced me to my best friends and allowed me to build and have relationships as soon as I arrived on the forty acres. However I went beyond that, I came back and was a counselor last year. Strangely enough, I enjoyed being a counselor more than a camper. Smiles enveloped Camp Buckner both my sessions, I saw students who were more prepared than ever for college, and I want to be apart of that again. My campers look up to me and have reached out on multiple occasions, in fact, campers who aren't even mine have. Seeing the smiles, the impact, the memories we create is surreal, and I would be a fool if I didn't at least try to come back and be a counselor again. Camp Texas has changed my life, it has brought me 22 incredible campers, it has provided me, one incredible co-counselor(hopefully more), and it has blessed me with an experience that will shape me forever.

Working alongside Kevin and spending time with him my freshman year, I truly bought into his policy. Kevin is a very stern individual, who fights for what he believes in. Along with this, something else I realized about Kevin is that he isn’t afraid to ask for help. Throughout my life, I was very independent, but while I watched Kevin balance camp, SG, a job, and classes, one quality I noticed is that he relied on his resources when he needed to and looked to them for advice. Because of this, I changed my leadership style and learned to lean on other people, I am not a perfect leader, but after spending time with Kevin and trying to replicate his determination and his ability to work in a team I have taken one step forward in my journey to becoming the best leader I can
