Day two clinicals. This day went so much smoother. I had the same two patient as the day before and one got discharged and I got a new patient. I feel like my second day I had an amazing relationship with my one patient. I got her to eat a little more that day because I knew what to talk to her about.
This year, I experienced both a personal and academic obstacle that correlate with one another. In January, I started the year long Medical Assisting program at my school. Prior to beginning this program, I was so excited to be getting a medically centered education, and learning about the field I wanted to expand my career in. After entering the program and learning that there is so much more to medicine than just taking care of patients, I began to lose my interest. This was shocking to me since, my whole life up until this year, I believed I was going to become an amazing medical doctor.
The senior staff then saw the patient and developed their management plan based on the information I’ve provided, never once did doubt my words because I was a medical student, instead, they treated me as an equal on the team and provided me an opportunity to understand what it is like working as a doctor. The junior staff are always keen to teach, whenever there is a break they would offer me an impromptu tutorial on topics I’m interested in; my x-ray interpretation skills have increased exponentially because of this and I am forever grateful for it. The team has truly made me feel that I’m part of the team and what I did every day was actually useful to them. This has encouraged me to stay back longer and work harder every day.
When I was eleven years old, I tore my anterior cruciate ligament, more commonly known as the ACL while playing in a football game. Being only eleven years old, this was a pretty unusual injury as most ACL tears do not happen until mid to later teens. Hearing that I tore my ACL was pretty devastating. I did not know much about it, but I knew enough to know I would be out of sports for a long time. The next nine months of my life were spent with one goal in mind: getting back to sports.
The best thing I had accomplishment in high school is doing my 200 over hours in the Mercy Medical Hospital. Doing this was a big accomplishment because I learned how to communicate with the people in the community and also I had also learned new things on how to take care of the patients their to make them feel comfortable while they where their. How I earned these hours was by going once a week and doing four hours and I help people locate where they need to go and I also go to the floors and help them get their things ready when they are about to get discharged. Also, when I was able to work on the weekend and during my breaks I had done eight hours each day I took the extra hours to show that I am capable that I wanna help the people
I was highly impressed by the overall teamwork in the emergency department. It has a sense of organized chaos that would have taken me some time to adjust to. My nurse and I ended up going through a large group of patient during the time I was there. The nurse has this uniformity to how she would get her tasks done. The thing that through me off was the amount of stuff got done with our patients by other people.
When I walk into her room I see her lying there defenseless. The light above her bed casts the perfect fluorescence on her skin and she beams with elegance. I look at the nurse and the ends of her mouth twist up and the sides of her eyes crinkle and you can tell smiling is a way of life for her. She glides over to where I am standing and hugs me softly, telling me she will leave us alone so I can have my time with her. She walks off and closes the door tenderly, as if not to wake Brooklynn.
The Side Effects Cancer was something that happened in my life that I did not see coming. No of course it was not me who was hit with the big C. This happened to my sister when I was in the 6th grade. This took a major change for me and it changed who I am today. My step-mom told me when we left walmart.
On my last day of clinical rotation, I was assigned to NICU and I was able to also witness two vaginal delivery. I was able to follow my NICU nurse and she allowed me to do some feeding as well as change diapers. I was able to witness a placement of the IV line through the umbilicus and saw a Nurse drawn blood for peak and through for erythromycin for the newborn. My overall experience was educational, amazing, and most of all, hands-on. I was scared at first because it was very different from Med Surg and Mental health, but with nurses that explained, demonstrated, and allowed me to be hands on, I felt confident at the
An event that influenced my life occurred when I came to the U.S not knowing any English. I did not know anyone around nor did I understood them. It took me a while to learn a few words and than learn to speak them. The first few months it was hard for me because I found English complicated, confusing, and hard to memorize. Some words were easy because it was somehow connected to Spanish, and others were not as easy.
A Life Changing Event As a child I used to be very quiet and obedient. I never lacked attention from my parents and felt their love and support. They never told me about death and I never really thought about it because it was never an obstacle that I had to face. I was raised in a happy and loving atmosphere and I would say that I was very sheltered and naïve about a lot of things in life.
I have completed several status reports to physicians now, and received positive feedback. I still need to work on being more concise and less nervous. I have been gaining confidence as I have been learning
My passion for healthcare lies with patient care. I enjoy taking care of patients and their family. Under the knife I remember my very first surgery. It wasn’t major but to me, an 8-year-old child, the thought of having needles and knives and people all around me scared me awfully. When my mom first told me I’d have to have teeth removed I thought I was going to die.
I was seven years old when I almost drowned. I was a Girl Scout back then. I never really wanted to be in Girl Scouts, because the idea of selling cookies, meetings, and camping trips was not really my thing, but my mom insisted on me being a girl scout. All the girls in my group went to school with me, I did not really get along with most of them, because I was shy and kept to myself back then. I never had the thought of drowning, and never thought it would happen to me, but that day I was wrong.
