A Life Changing Event
As a child I used to be very quiet and obedient. I never lacked attention from my parents and felt their love and support. They never told me about death and I never really thought about it because it was never an obstacle that I had to face. I was raised in a happy and loving atmosphere and I would say that I was very sheltered and naïve about a lot of things in life. But one summer day, I learned a very valuable lesson about death and how an innocent lie could change your life in a major way.

I never took my dog to the waterfront, but I wanted to show Tony that he was wrong. The worst thing was that I could not swim either. When we reached the waterfront Buster immediately ran into the water, stopped, looked at me and ran back on the sand. “Told ya!” – Tony laughed. – “That dog can’t swim, but I can teach him.” Tony grabbed my dog and started going into the water. “Stop!” – I yelled. – “Please, don’t do it”, but Tony pretended not to hear me. At that moment I felt I had no other choice but to run into the water after him. Suddenly, I stepped on a stone under water and slipped and fell. At that moment I was so scared because I could not see, hear or feel anything, as if I was blind, deaf and paralyzed at the same time. I was also short of breath, I felt the blood pulsating in my temples, and my heart was beating so fast, I thought I was going to die. I wanted to scream but I could not and the water began to fill my mouth, my nose, and my ears. My whole short life rushed before my eyes in a flash. I closed my eyes and thought I was about to die! When I opened my eyes I saw Tony’s frightened face and felt Buster licking my cheek. Tony had pulled me out of the water and all I could do was thank GOD that I was
