In order to understand something you need to put yourself in someone elses shoes. If you are having trouble with something look at it from someones elses perspective. When you put yourself in someone eleses perspective you will learn to understand how the world works. You will also understand how people think and feel about specific things. If you don't see other people's perspectives you won't be able to see why they think that thing.
Out of the three activities I participate in at Anson High School, the National Art Honor Society would be one that has impacted me the most. When I was first put into the art class my sophomore year, I tried my hardest to drop the course. The reason being is because I knew for a fact I would not be able to fully enjoy the course with my lack of artistic skills. After being in the class for a month and completing my first art assignment, I realized how much talent I actually do possess. A passion for art was quickly created over the course of time.
I didn’t learn to read or write until I was 7 years old. I was in my second grade class and my peers and I were sitting in a circle when the teacher called on me to read. I sputtered some gibberish with a tomato red face. The only words I recognized were “it’s” “it,” and “a”- which is really just a letter.
Early in my life, I used books as an escape from the harsh reality in front of me. When I was around five years old, I was trapped in an abusive and sheltered household. When the yelling started, I used to hide under my bed and stay very quiet. I would read any book that I could find to keep my mind off what was happening around me. I made myself a safe space under my bed with a light and pillows.
Growing up I never focused my attention on reading and writing. I found alternate interests in playing video games and bonding with my family. My mother always forced my siblings and I to read three novels every summer, to increase our knowledge, and to expand our imaginations. It wasn’t till later in life where reading became native to me. Every event big or small, helped shape my literacy skills that I’ve achieved through my years of education.
I’ve had a very on off relationship when it comes to literacy. Up until the fifth grade I wasn’t much of a reader or writer. Then in fifth grade, we started reading really good books. Usually as a class. I found myself needing a way out of this terrible world in the sixth grade.
Like most people I too have faced many barriers in education making it hard to grow and learn both in class and in life. Most things you learn are at an early age from your parents and throughout life in school. Many of the information we learn as people come from learning them ourselves. We also change and grow from things we have been through. A lot of times we adapt to our surroundings whether it be a place or the people we’re around learning new things.
What is the purpose of The Lottery? The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson is a short story about an annual lottery that happens every June. The “winner” of the lottery gets stoned to death by everybody else in the village. Originally, the people of a small village started this tradition because they believed if the village made a sacrifice they would have a heavy corn season.
From the time I was a child, I have loved to read. My companions throughout life have been book characters, starting with Junie B. Jones and growing to incorporate historical characters such as Robert Oppenheimer. As I grew, I realized I wanted to learn how to immerse people in the way that I was when reading. I started writing, and two unique strengths have begun to shine through: my analytical writing and my creative writing. While reading, I take thorough notes, and this helps me to express well thought-out ideas.
My Journey to Literacy Have you ever reflected on how you became the literary genius that you are? This is my story or should I say journey to literacy. My trek starts with my Mom reading to me as soon as I came out of the womb. She read to me from childhood well into my grade school years. Writing started with breakfast everyday as I copied words from cereal boxes.
My learning pattern is sequence with a score of 30, precision score of 28, technical reasoning score of 22, and confluence score of 17. I discovered from taking the learning pattern inventory that I am a dynamic learner. The definition of a dynamic learner uses the LCI scale scores of an individual who uses one or two Patterns at the Use First level and any other combination of Avoid or Use as Needed for the remaining Patterns. My personal learning pattern: Sequence- By working as a collection agent, I starts my morning off by listening to all my messages and reviewing all my promise to pay customers to see if they were going to keep their promise to pay.
My feelings toward writing aren 't good nor bad. Writing is something i have had difficulty with in my past. I have no problem brainstorming ideas on what topics to write my assignments on, even if i am given a prompt, but I do have difficulty with sitting down and planning my work. I always find myself getting stuck. So I almost never take the time out to plan out my ideas i come up with.
My ultimate educational goal is to graduate from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, with a degree in business administration. Although this sounds relatively simple, I know that there is a great deal of effort that goes into such a feat. Student loans are sometimes considered an “investment for your education”, but I am determined to complete my college degree without accumulating debt. I consider student loans to be just another tool for debt, which is not beneficial to me in any way.
Do you know what you 're best way of learning is?There are many learning styles. My dominant learning style is logical-mathematical and it will affect my education in many ways. After taking the learning style assessment I learned I 'm a Logical-Mathematical person. One reason I 'm a mathematical person is I like playing dominoes, chess, checkers, and Monopoly.
At this time of year, I begin to look back at my life after 12 hard years of schooling. Throughout the course of my life, there have been many ups and downs, but these up and downs is what made me who I am today. These influences have shaped my values, attitudes and beliefs towards life. There have been many important people and events that has impacted my life. One of which is family and the media.
