Personal Narrative: Jordan Lake

Chirp! Splash! Tweet! How was I supposed to sleep with all the different noises that nature produces? Spending time in the wilderness was not something I thought possible. A friend of my mom told us to go camping with them at Apex, North Carolina and visit Jordan Lake. Jordan Lake is known for their recreational events, which include: boating, fishing, camping, hiking and much more. My family and I decided to give it a try and see if we would enjoy it or not. Buying supplies to go camping was our first stop. We bought sleeping bags, a tent for four people and even a canoe! Food, drinks, utensils, cooking items and other things were also bought. Next we packed clothes, towels, bathing suits, hygiene items, sunscreen, bug repellent, fishing poles and lanterns. Now our only problem was to fit all these things into the SUV. At least we made it before everyone got cranky for sitting for an hour. In order to camp we had to pay either twenty-five dollars for a lot with electricity or twenty dollars for one without electricity. Since it was our first time with this experience we bought a lot with electricity. The difficult part came; we were now stuck trying to find a lot that looked pleasant. After driving around in circles we were able to find out that looked “decent.” Finally, the adventure began! Putting up the tent took about an hour since we kept on putting the poles into the wrong hole. After that stressful experience came the fun part. It was time to take the canoe for a ride into the water. We packed snacks, our fishing poles, life jackets, sunglasses, sunscreen and hats. It took a while to steer the canoe, but eventually we were able to managed it and find a good fishing spot. At that same place we took a swim before it became dark.
