Personal Narrative: Medium-Dudes At My Gym

Since I got to the University of Miami, I have gone to the Herbert Wellness Center about 5 to 6 times per week. When I first went to the gym, I felt as if I was treading in completely new waters. After being accustom to my gym at home and all the machines, weights, and equipment there, I had no clue what to expect. In New Jersey, I was considered to be one of the medium sized dudes at my gym. I was not the biggest around, but I definitely was not the smallest. When I walked into the gym for the first time, excited and thrilled to be working out somewhere new, I thought instantly that this gym had few differences from other gyms that I had been to. This section comes equipped with smaller weights, 10lbs and below, and a variety of resistance bands. All these machines are meant to ensure your safety and the weights can be changed easily. All that is needed to raise/lower the weight is for a simple pin to be placed in the hole of the desired weight. Besides the actual reps during the workout, no other weights are lifted in this section. These lines are able to be crossed, however, by doing so one will most likely be crossing their comfort line. Comfortably and fitting in are key in here. College is meant to be where students can discover themselves again and branch out, however many chose to remain in an area where they feel safe and secure. The standard at the university is that the men want to get as big and strong as possible, while the women want to maintain curvy, yet slim.
