Personal Narrative: My First Shirt Bike Crash

It was the summer of 2012 that I experienced my first dirt bike crash. People may think that it is dangerous or life threatening to ride a dirt bike, but really once you try and get the hang of it, it’s pretty fun. You won’t want to stop. When you crash, everything just happens super-fast that you don’t even know what just happened. Crashing is only fun if you aren’t injured, but once you crash and get injured then it’s a whole different story. In my case the crash was injure less, and I’m glad that I don’t have any broken bones…yet. As the sun rise, we rise on a Sunday morning. We, meaning the whole family, get up and start getting ready and we load the 4 wheel drive trucks with our Yamaha YZ250 bikes, Yamaha YZ125 bikes and 250 Suzuki bike. Our family ranges in bike selection but I prefer a Yamaha bike. As we load the trucks with bikes, we load our gear, coolers, chairs, tents, and all the smaller necessities that we need. Once it hits 8:00, my uncle’s truck is loaded, my dad’s one is and so is one of my brothers’ truck. 8:00 hits and we’re out, we to head 7-11, pick up ice, food, drinks and other snacks. Keep in mind that Kahuku is a one hour drive from Mililani, so we’d arrive at Kahuku Motorcross around 9:00-9:30ish. Once we get there, we unload what we loaded. Coming down a steep hill was not fun at all. It’s scary, almost to the point where you feel like you’re going to eat shit the whole way down. But I didn’t because a good tip I was told was to hold your back brakes and slowly make it down. The ground was just as bad as going up. The width of the gravel was about 4 yards, but still yet, the sides are like cliffs so if you fall, it’s a long way down. Injuries could happen, break your bike, maybe even hospitalized.
