Blood was everywhere, mom was screaming, sister was crying it was a disaster. After we left the hospital, nighttime approached, and we went home and everything was fine, except the giant cut in my mouth. Since I was a stubborn young kid, I did not listen to my parents, which made me almost have a speech issue. From this experience I learned to respect my parent, and that they are only trying to help. I had now viewed the world differently, respecting what my parents said, from then on out.
The day I had knee surgery. On February 14th my mother woke me up with a smile on her face to lighten the mood a little, because the next morning would be the day that I would have my first surgery ever. I was really clam in the morning like any other day. It really didn 't hit me that I would have surgery

On May 7th of 2007, I almost lost my older brother to head trauma. My brother Ben was playing flag football in P.E. when him and a kid named J.D. Olson had collided heads. Ben went to the office because he was not feeling very well. My mom had received a call from the school about Ben and his accident. The office had called my mom and explained to her what had happened and insisted that Ben should be taken home.
About a year ago, my dad got into a a very severe mountain biking accident. My 11 year old brother was with him and he called my mom and I for help. We could tell on the phone that he was panicked and afraid. So I grabbed the first aid kit and we rushed to the car and drove to where they had been riding.
Dad stayed in the hospital for over a week by the time he came home, he had put over 70 Ivs in his arms. Dad was nervous to go to his appointment the next week because he didn’t want to stay there again. It was harsh that year he sleepwalked out in the cold to go to town but couldn’t find the keys. Mom told everyone to get up and help find dad, so I looked outside and when I looked in the car there he was sleeping in the driver seat. With the doctor bills and all of the other stuff we are kind of broke.
Ever since I can remember, my entire life has been filled with reoccuring hospital visits, some for me, and others for family members. A couple of visits were for my youngest brother Neddy, who was born three months early. He was put in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for two months and kept an incubator that only allowed us to touch him by putting our hands in the built in gloves for the first week. It was hard seeing him like that but I also liked watching the nurses and doctors work so swiftly and with ease.
This essay discusses the structure of “narration in the form of stories or examples” in English text, with its function to engage the audience. The ASL videos, fall into the function category of informing and enlightening. In the first paragraph, I will highlight features that represent functions in English, followed by ASL text within the next paragraphs. For the purpose of this essay, I have chosen the Ted talk video on the “Teddy Bear” and “Living Fully”. The ASL videos are “Global Deaf community” and the Claudia Gordon interview.
Enhancing My Roots Being Mexican-American has been such a blessing to me. Growing up I would feel embarrassed to have brown skin and to my speak my first language, which is Spanish. I would feel jealous hearing the other kids speak English so well as I struggled more and was placed in English Language Development. I would detest to get pulled out of class and get asked trivial questions like “what is this?” when it was a simple book.
Constantly after the divorce, my mother and I wouldn 't talk for days, weeks, or months depending on her mood. The difference between other mothers and my own led to open doors for me. As she became unreliable, I began to depend on myself to get things done. With my father constantly traveling, I was no longer depending on my mother to fill out school papers, and day to day motherly responsibilities soon became my own. Invariably, I wouldn 't know what to expect from her, either a conversation about how she cares about me or how she believed my father was corrupting me.
“Mitchell! It’s time!” my mom shouted from down the stairs. Nearly in tears, I sluggishly sauntered down the stairs, stalling with every step I took. Loathing this walk toward the kitchen table, I would rather be absolutely anywhere else in the world than sitting at the kitchen table doing this.
There have been many people in my life who have impacted it both negatively and positively, but no one has had an impact in my life greater than my mom. This woman is just amazing in my eyes, right from the beginning because of the way she raised me, if I had children I would raise them the same way she raised me. The person she is, in general, has really had a great effect in my life, and also how she has always told me about the struggles shes had in her life from the ones I didn't see to the ones I have seen with my own eyes. I believe if I didn't know my mother as well as I do, she wouldn't have influenced me as much as she does. The way my mom raised me has made me the person I am today, so if I were to say she didn't impact my life I would be lying.
I watched my mother fade away slowly as she was battling pancreatic cancer. I looked after her everyday as best as I could; however, the feeling of my eventual solitude was unbearable. The thought of my mother’s imminent demise made me feel like my heart was being continuously stabbed. Watching my mother suffer was one of the hardest things I have ever had to go through. After her passing; something changed in me, darkness filled where love once was.
My mom, my sweet, gentle mom. My mom is like my sister, we love to talk about juicy stuff and love to share with each other what we did during the day. I don 't like to imagine myself without her because she is basically my life. She is caring and kind and always have a smile on her face when she sees me. When I say her name I get a picture of her in my mind.
