Meet my Jazz band. This is a picture of us in New Orleans my junior year during spring break to play Jazz. I decided upon this picture because this band has had such a profound impact on how I frame my future. My connection with music through the piano has been fostered ever since I could reach those shiny black and white collection of keys. Starting at the age of four, playing the classical music of Mozart and Bach was what my musical background was founded upon, with tangible medals and accomplishments as achievements.
It’s the end of the game, my team is down one, there are eight seconds and counting on the clock and the ball is in my hands. I search the stands to find the one person who has been there for me my entire life. Only he’s not there. It’s easy to get caught up in the game; not the game of basketball, but the dope game. It is a life few choose, but many find themselves in due to the harsh reality of job loss and depression.
Growing up in a family where my mom was a doctor and my dad was a musician, I was exposed to a lots of things in my life. For example I was able to see Broadway plays and and go on family trips to Disney every year in the winter. A lot of people would say I was very fortunate to be one of the family where I knew both my parents and they did there best to give me a lot of life experiences. But me being an African-American male it seems like I not supposed to how do experiences, I was supposed to not know my father not to be able to go on these trips with my family.
This goal should be obtained during multiple time milestones throughout my life. Working hard in high school will be obtained by the end of every year. I can use this to predict it for the rest of my life. Another major time period would be at the end of high school and college. Once I find a career, I will reevaluate after the first year.
After college, I would love to become a high school music teacher. Some long term goals are to go back to college after teaching for awhile and get my doctorate in conducting. I also want to get married and have a nice family. My main priority is my education and to get a secure job that I
I think that this activity gave me the extra push I needed because over Thanksgiving break I spoke up to one of my family members for the first time ever when they said something negative about Black people. I know that I still have an incredible amount of progress to make, and that it is something that I should have been doing all along, but I am still glad that I finally made a step in the right direction. In addition to continuing to speak up against people who are participating in racism in my presence I also need to continue to be aware of current events in the future. Every once in a while we would have a discussion in class about what’s been going on in the media, and almost half of the time I was not aware of what was going on until somebody brought it up in class.
It still remains fresh in my memory that when I was still in my junior high school, one day my classmates and I were walking on our way home after school, around the corner of the street appeared a black man whom was very rare to see in my hometown. Although my parents had taught me that it was very impolite to stare at other for a long time, however, I still slowed down my footstep and could not help glancing at the black man a few more times with my classmates who is behaving more unbridled, laughing out loud teasingly and talking in a very low voice. At that time I did not know if that could be counted as racial discrimination of not because we certainly had never had the idea that black man is inferior to us, instead, we just thought the black man was so different to us. However, if some people do that to me, I would definitely be annoyed a little. Later, when I was admitted by a high school in the city I live, I finally had the chance to meet some foreign teachers and international friends with whom I have maintained very good relationships.
Growing up there were many time where things would happen but I was too young to realize it or even know what was happening. As time went passed thing got better and less noticeable but that is when things normally take a turn for the worse. But most people when looking at me would say he is African American but in reality yes I am partly African American
I want to be successful. I want to graduate high school and then college. I aspire to become an accomplished lawyer, and make enough money to do the things that I want to do. Once I am going steady with my job, I want to settle down, fall in love, get married, and then eventually have children. I want two to three kids, one of them being a boy, and the other a girl.
The negative treatment and pain I received as a black girl, and still into my adulthood, it amazes me how I'm still standing tall and strong. It amazes me how people have tried to break me, even my own kind, but I'm still here. Truth is I gotta to have thick skin and protect myself, because I got no choice. If I don't... who will? And that is the everyday life of living as a black woman.
From the childhood, I loved to sing, my parents still have video records of my little performances in front of kindergarten and school. Therefore, finishing high school, I did not spend a lot of time to choose my future profession. My decision was to be musician, moreover my parents did not force me to choose another profession and I am grateful to them for that. During the years in university, I did not lose this passion about music. Trying to be the best one, I found the music industry very interesting and hard, because from the first sight , it seems like that industry is very wide spread , however there are only few main players-corporate labels in this sphere , that control everything.
