I cried. “I'm not a genius! I can't play the piano. And even if I could, I wouldn't go on TV for a million dollars!”’ (Tan).
In the story The Piano Lesson, by August Wilson, the piano is shown through history and memory through generations which impacts the character's decisions . Such as causing emotions and decisions among the family and having different points of view from a family from the ancestors causing strong emotions for the family. The characters' memories of slavery and their ancestor experiences with it play a significant role in shaping their identities and decisions. For example, Bernice says, “when I play on it, I’m playing on the bones of the people who are buried in the graveyard…
Suddenly, “blue piano” music got her out of the grips of numbness. She quickly ran to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. “Blanche, Blanche…” - she spoke to herself - “Honey! What are you doing? Stella...
She knew better than to put it more than a few feet away from him. She cleaned up the dishes and crept over to the piano. She traced her fingers over the ivory keys. Music played in her head, music that she longed to play on that beautiful piano. It broke her heart to see an instrument as magnificent as
When my dad completed his first college physics exam, he felt a rush of relief as he confidently placed his exam on the teacher’s desk. He celebrated his success by embarking on a weekend camping adventure with his friends. Returning to class the following Monday, his mouth dropped open in shock when he spotted a large letter “D” on his exam. “This can’t be right!” he exclaimed to himself as he frantically reviewed his answers.
Unfortunately, I was once again painfully reminded of my piano skills. My fingers were to playing the piano as Jeremy Lin was to being a Stanford student—which is to say a whole lot of nope and not-so-much of yes. This time, though, I was not walking away. With the help of my go-to educational source, YouTube,
Each day for the next month I practiced my piano piece continuously. I used different techniques to polish little spots here and there, trusting that every method would contribute to the final war against nerves. Gradually, I felt more comfortable with my piece, lessening my overall anxiousness and boosting my confidence. But soon the days grew long and the competition day approached.
Personal Narrative It all started during band. Before the bell rang everyone was supposed to have their instruments, so me, David, and Arthur assembled our trombones. When the bell rang Mr.Glover told us that the trombones to practice in the old choir room. So we went straight into the band room when we found out what songs we were to play.
As an avid fan of the manipulation of language, double meanings of words have always interested me. “Brilliance” with its multifaceted denotations is my favorite word because it accurately describes the essence of who I am. In one aspect, brilliance means “exceptional talent and intelligence”. I am hard working; I achieve high grades in school and use the wisdom I gain in daily experiences. As a leader, I have to use my insightfulness often to think of quick and efficient ways to lead.
I had just created a great invention that will undoubtedly change the world for the next fifty years and I need your assistance. I Thomas Edison will like to acquire a loan in the amount of $500. This amount of money will allow me to be able to build around sixty Cylinder Phonographs. The loan will give me the ability to purchase the resources that are used to create the phonograph, and to be able to pay employees that I will hire, the employees will help me build the sixty phonographs. I was trying to find a way to be able to record telegraphic messages by using tape.
The learning process started with me making a decision of which instruments to play. The decision reflects on pathos because the decision involved me choosing between two instruments that I always wanted to play for their soft melody since I was young. I ended up choosing the piano because I already have one in the apartment. There were two ways to learn the piano; one is by viewing YouTube tutorials and the other is Virtual Piano.
Have you ever thought you were a failure, when you exceed expectations? Have you ever succeeded in that which you felt you would fail? This verse from The Dhammapada demonstrates that it is foolish to expect yourself to be wise when you do not know you will be for certain. "The fool who knows his foolishness, is wise at least so far. But a fool who thinks himself wise, he is called a fool indeed.
My history as a writer has been a bit of a struggle of slow development. From a young age I had a hard time with spelling and this is still a trouble area for me, even with the help of autocorrect. As I grew in age and as a writer my problematic area became not including enough nitty gritty details. My bad experiences that I recall would always involve the start of writing because I struggle with beginning paragraphs. Also, I tend to use the ending paragraph to just repeat myself, so overall my first and last paragraphs are usually shit.
My gaze penetrates the black box and wishes to create frictions of four strings, the way musicians were rendering the music during my Middle School orientation. My elective choice, a violin, upset my mom though. Italian Andrea Amati, creator of the first violin would never be imagined that roller coaster inventor Joseph Merlin introduced his invention while playing the violin. Up to middle school, an orchestra was a part of regular school time, the predicament started when I continued playing violin in the school orchestra at Troy High School.
We live in a world where everyone seeks ‘instant gratification’ and the message that is propagated is: You can have! This is why credit card debt is such an insidious thing in the modern world. Our culture has become so accustomed to using credit to purchase whatever we think we desire, that the idea of delayed gratification is almost laughable. It certainly seems outdated!
