My trip to California taught me a life lesson I will never forget. About 3 or 4 years ago my mom and I went to Santa Monica California. It was by far the best trip I ever went on, and can not be compared to any other trip. But one thing was different from the others. Something that made me think to myself “Why would someone deceive people like that?”. As my mom and I were walking down the boardwalk I was astounded by all of the shops and rides that were there but one thing stood out to me. There was this man that had a cup in his hand begging for money. When I saw him I immediately wanted to help him so I took out my wallet and was going to give him some money. She said “That man is not homeless. First, look at his dog. His dog is most likely a pure breed judging by how it looks. It also has a leather leash with fake jewels on it. The dog also is neatly groomed and looks happy. A hungry or homeless dog would probably not be happy and be laying on the ground.” At this point I was astonished after all the details that were named off. But I had no idea how much more there was. “Next” she said, “Look at the man. He has a neatly cut and brushed haircut. He also has on clean shoes, and do you know what shoes those are? They are Jordans which go for about 200 or MORE per pair. And just to add insult to injury look at what he is wearing. A Hollister shirt that has tears in it, and those tears are obviously done by him.”. Now after this semi-rant about the fake homeless man I did NOT want to give him any money not even a 1/100th of a cent. After looking around for a bit I went into the Police Station on the boardwalk to see if I could get a patch from there as I collect Police Department patches. After talking to the officer stationed in there for a bit the topic of the fake homeless man came up. I asked him if it was illegal for him to be doing this and if he knew more about
