Personal Narrative: My Trip To New York

Prior to my trip to New York, I never had the urge to travel or realized just how large of an impact it can have on you as a person. It allows one to see people and places never seen before, and it can teach valuable lessons while exploring parts of the world that are not seen routinely. This trip to New York was embarked upon by myself, and my two roommates Lee and Igor. What I learned from this experience is that I strive to be very successful with money, while giving back to the economy and to those who aren’t as fortunate as I plan to be, and that life should be lived to the fullest each and every day because it can be taken away in the blink of an eye. Lee had been planning this trip for months, and he really wanted me to be able to go. The planned day for departure was September 18th, 2017, and that morning I thought that I would not have the funds to go. My roommate had a conversation on the phone with my mother, and she was able to give me money out of my savings account so that I was able to go on the trip that night. I remember sitting in the car, packed full of luggage, in disbelief that we were about to drive for 20 hours. I do not have much to my name, as I am a 20-year-old college student, but it made me realize that so many people are worse off than me, but success is also possible through hard work and determination. It opened a sense of caring and empathy within myself that has made me strive towards being rich but putting money back into the community so that others are better off. The near-death experience on my way home made me rethink the value of being alive, and that I should make every day meaningful.
