I don 't exactly remember the day learned to read, I guess learning to read came hand in hand with learning to write, slowly. I remember having to copy words off of a blackboard onto paper, then re-write those words over and over again until I not only memorized how to write them but also how to pronounce them. My Journey to Literacy As kids we are taught literacy without knowing it. Our parents or teachers have sat down with us and helped us write out our letters, sound out words, and form sentences. We were all given crayons at restaurants and a piece of paper that had fun games, cartoons, and tic tac toe. There are few people who have not learned to read and write, or have learned in a different way or at an older age.
For me, literacy has always been a problem to this day I am still learning how to speak, and write using proper literacy. Literacy is not just reading and writing, anyone can do that but the ability to understand such things, to comprehend them that is, true literacy. My development for literacy has always been a struggle as I have spoken about before. I had a speak impediment when I was younger which used me to go into different classes which took me away from formal English classes.
In the duration of my middle school years, I maintained excellent grades, except I had just one issue that held me back from a satisfying life. That issue was the fact that friends came very hard to me in my middle school years. Before my struggles at my middle school, Trafton, I had a very productive social life in the Elementary school I attended, Roberts Elementary. Here, it was very easy to make friends and have a great social life, since no hard work was required as a kid. Middle school, however, was a great challenge for me.

As a child, I was encouraged by my parents to read as an independent hobby. Research suggests the importance of motivating children to prepare for independent reading in school, as it contributes to one’s reading performance in adulthood (Bee et al., 2018). My genuine passion and interest in reading influenced my literary ability from an early age, and I was reading novels by kindergarten and was often placed in gifted reading programs. My reading was very poor and my writing and spelling was even worse. No matter how hard I tried, I could still not spell or read well. At the age of 10, my mum decided to take me to get tested for dyslexia as my reading, writing and spelling for my age was still extremely poor. After the vigorous testing, it was discovered that I suffered from severe dyslexia. I was encouraged to read and write more.
