The Day I Saw My First Battle Herot was known for its wild parties. Everyone would drink mead, eat like kings and act like fools. I wasn’t into parties that much but of course I was dragged into this because Beowulf was here. Beowulf, who is the son of Edgetho, is the strongest man that the world has ever known. He is here to battle Grendel, who killed so many men during our last party. Herot hasn’t been open since that battle, which was 12 years ago. I guess that’s why everyone was so excited.
My mom tapped me on my shoulder, “Honey, you could look a little happier.”
“Mom, I just want to go home.”
“Well I am going to get more mead and then we can go home.”
I sat for hours waiting for her to come back but I guess she got carried away and went home without me. The party was pretty calm now though and most people already left. It resembled the stomping of something but I knew it was probably just an animal or someone who woke up in the night. All of a sudden, the iron fasteners flung off the door. The Geats jumped out of their sleep and looked toward the noise. The beast was in the door and the smell was awful. It smelled of raw flesh and I could see the slime falling off of the beast. I was just a baby when Grendel attacked the first time but I remember when my brother would wake of nightmares of the horrific night. Everyone stayed still and waited to see what the beast would do. Suddenly, the beast grabbed the guy sitting next to me! He ripped him apart, bit into his body and started drinking his blood. He threw his body against the wall and grabbed the next Geat he could find, which was Beowulf. Instantly I saw that Beowulf had the upper hand. He cracked the monsters claws in his own hand and clutched Grendel
