It’s Friday night and the St. Rita football team is playing Mount Carmel in our homecoming game. Everyone is cheering and having a great time. The St. Rita football team is winning and everyone is exited. As I look around and see how much attention the football team is getting, and how when people think of St. Rita they think of our sports teams. How we have a great sports program.
It was an early Saturday morning in October, when the Panther girls softball team were playing for a third straight win. The two games before that flew by easily, we won both and were playing to be seeded first in the tournaments the next day. The crowd was full of excitement, parents yelling, and the coach yelling at the umpires, because of bad calls. We were nervous because it was a really good team that had 3 of the best players in the state. We had played them in two previous tournaments, and lost on the second day, so this time we were determined to beat them.
It was awesome when my sister’s cheer team Synergy got first place at her cheer competition and won a trip to Orlando, Florida. Then we went to The Mall of America and went to the amusement park and road rides. Then later we went to dinner with all the girls on the cheer team at Dicks Last Resort, i would recommend going here if you're ever at The Mall of America. For the reasons above this trip to The Mall of America was totally amazing.
The Trinity basketball program was founded on certain ideals, but those ideals were drounded. We didn 't accomplish what previous Spartan teams did but Champions are not the ones who always win the races, but the ones who try and try again, and try harder each and every time. 'Champion ' is a state of mind. We didnt win much, but what we did do was rebuild the ideals that our basketball program was founded
I ran in my middle school’s track team for two years. I ran the mile, one hundred meter dash and triple jump. Out of all the events I participated in I absolutely despised the mile, I hated the aftermath the most. The feeling of my lungs burning, legs aching from the long run and the heavy asthmatic breathes. Although the mile had several cons, I loved the challenge and I was too stubborn to quit.
The time I almost got cut from the basketball team.the first day of tryouts I didn’t come because I didn’t have my physical at the time.but when I got it I was there and lots of people were and only fifteen could qualify. On the first day all we had to do was shoot and show our form. But we did do something a little fun you had to get a partner and perform some moves on him. So the coach said “go” me and my partner which was Robert.
In life, even though we are told not to do so, a lot of us “count our chickens before they hatch”. We make assumptions on things before they happen because we believe that if something seems so likely, it will happen. Well, that is what my Liberty High School cross country team did my sophomore year. Going into the year, we not only knew we were going to be strong, we thought other teams were going to be weak. The top teams from the state finals the previous year had all lost most of their key pieces.
However, I began to see the game as more than just a win or a loss. Losing gave the team the opportunity to closely look at what we did well, and what we needed to improve on. We were then able to focus more precisely on what we needed to do in order to succeed. I was able to learn that being successful and winning were not necessarily the same thing. We had success in a smaller sense; we worked as a team, played clean games and were noted for our sportsmanship.
The softball team has gave me unforgettable friendships, the ability to play with such inspiring athletes, and has given me skills that I can carry on due to coach Sal. The first year I had started on West High’s softball team was sophomore year. I remember going to the try outs, feeling awkward, due to me not being close to any of the girls since we were twelve and eleven. All the girls that were my age, the ones I was friends with when I was younger, were all on varsity. Since it was my first year back as a Falcon, Sal placed me on JV.
Throughout playing tennis for Creekside Middle School, I have faced lots of success. I played varsity all three years there, and during my sixth grade year, helped my team win the annual county tournament between middle schools. Though I was successful for many of my matches, I did met with failure at times. One of these times would be in my seventh grade year, when my doubles partner and I had lost in the final round of the tournament.
Kieran has a cousin in the NBA. Luke can run a mile in under six minutes. I also saw how Tyler, my brother, interacted with kids on his team and how they forged friendships through baseball. As a team we had many ups and downs. We won close games; we lost close games.
When I first started playing basketball, I was far behind many of the girls on the team. They have been playing basketball for years and they are also outstanding basketball players. Having more experience in this sport, they did not display even a bit of arrogance, but instead, they have shown me so much humility by guiding and helping me to improve my skills. They were patient and they took the time out so that I can be better. Moreover, every single member is equal and an essential part to the team.
Sweat dripping down my face; using what little dry spots I had left on my shirt to wipe it off. Darkness filled the night with one light that flickered on and off every few minutes was all that I had to illuminate what was in front of me. Not even an hour ago there was about forty people here and sun shining and now it’s just a ball, a basket, and me. I dribble and crossover the imaginary defender, spins around the other, and finally finishes the lay up right past the last man. Just like every other day in the summer of going into my freshman year of high school, I was the one of the first on the court ready to play and the last to work on what I hadn’t done great on that day.
Late last summer, I was hired to coach the team that would have an unimaginable impact on our talent pool for my high school volleyball teams. In the past years, I developed a bright, shining passion for the sport, and coaching a team would be an astounding opportunity to utilize my inspiration to give back to the community. Previously I had been a student manager of the Varsity team, following orders and assisting in practices; in other words, the mule of the gym. I’ve always had, and still continue to grow, a love for simply being in the volleyball gym. Watching the athletes practice every day, observing the coaches lead and train, and cheering along from the bench during every game were only a fraction of the enjoyments that pulled me tighter
There was not a season where we lost against them and today certainly would not be that day. Class finished and the clock read 3, our game started at 5:30. The air felt with tense emotion and quietness filled the room. We all gathered up, had a briefing moment, and then headed out to the court.
