“Wade in the water. Wade in the water, children. Wade in the water. God’s going to trouble the water,” the slaves sang as they did their daily work. Link
In The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby is many things. He is a yachtsman, a soldier in World War 1, an entrepreneur, and bootlegged alcohol in America. Both of these characters are very similar. They both are very rich and successful business men, even though they both seem to live unfilled lives. They also think that they always have to be in control over everything, and end up abusing their power because they think that they are above the law.
June 6, 1944, Juno Beach, Normally Someone threw up, it was the same soldier who threw up 30 seconds ago, but none of us said anything because we felt like throwing up too. I was on a landing boat to Juno Beach, I could hear other soldiers shouting and firing guns. When the door opened, instead of seeing land, in front of us was deep water. Since I was in the back of the landing boat, I had a lot of time to think about jumping into the water, more than the other soldiers who were standing in the front.
It is a private lake that me and my grandpa always go fishing at. When I walked down the dock I was so excited. When I got to the end my grandpa was waiting in the water for me getting ready to catch me, my grandma swimming next him shouted out, “One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go.” Then I jumped to my grandpa. I was really scared.
There is one far distant memory that I can never seem to get out of my head. When I was much younger, maybe 8 or 9, my family and I went to the Hawaiian islands on vacation. As everybody else that visits the islands, we of course went to the beach. I had no idea at the time that I would have such an intense experience that would change me for the rest of my life. It all starts on a perfect Hawaiian day, everything was exactly what you would expect out of a hot vacation spot.
I was only four years old. We went to the pool and I decided to bring my rubber lizard that I always loved to play with. My grandpa did not like it when I threw it around and accidentally smacked people with it in the pool. So, he basically took my lizard from me and did not let me have it back. (Years later I finally found out that he actually flung my lizard into a bush).
One more prominent memory that I have is after spending hours in the water with my neighbor, my grandfather told us it was time to go. We reluctantly gathered our items and got into the back of our pickup truck. By then we were shivering from the ocean water combined with the wind (not to mention our exhaustion from swimming for such a long period of time). There was a large blanket that we covered ourselves with while we drove from the lighthouse back home; all the while we were soaking wet and had rocks/ sand sticking to us. I continued to go out towards the lighthouse even as my grandfather had stopped taking us as we grew
Over Seas One afternoon, five years ago, my life changed. After eight years of hoping and praying that the agency would pick us to be the next family to migrate and get the chance to build a better, happier life. We were given the opportunity to live in the United States and my family could not have been happier; Their smiles were bigger than the galaxy itself and their eyes had stars in them, glowing brighter than the sun. Everything was perfect, everybody was happy and we were ready to begin a new chapter of our life as a family. Even though everything was going according to plan' we still can't hide the fact that we are leaving our family and friends behind.
When we got use to it was getting warm. When we got in the water we forgot that it was salt water so our nose, eyes, and mouth was burning and tasting nasty. Since the water was hard to swim in the took us back to walmart to get googles so that we can see. When we got back to the beach it was so much easier to see. We looked for
When we reached the beach we started making sand castles and playing games with my family and friends. After that we went into the water, It was fun until it hit me. A colossal wave dragged me into the cold abyssal water. I was helpless, freezing, I couldn't get out. Feeling like I would be stuck for eternity, lost and helpless.
I started the swim program back in 2010 my daughter, Kasey Rein; she wanted me to start it because she knew she would place at State. She was the only swimmer through 2010-11, since no one else knew how to swim. Afterwards high school students started to join swimming.
I got into the water till out of nowhere my arm got caught in seaweed. I screamed and yelled till the lifeguard came and helped me. I was so scared. Foot
One of the things in my life that have challenged me is my first time on a roller coaster. It all started when one summer we decided we were going to go on vacation to Salt Lake City. We would try and find an amusement park to go to. We found one named Lagoon. We got there and they had a lot of roller coasters.
When we first landed at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), we relaxed most of the day at our hotel and went to the beach that night. The next day was my birthday, so my parents let me plan the day for the most part. We hung out on the beach and went to California Pizza Kitchen. The hotel we stayed at had a private beach, so we were treated very well there. There were five chairs set up for us right in front of the deep blue Pacific Ocean.
It all started on a summer day, I went to nags head beach with my family. We got a big beach house with my whole family and a few friends. This was about 4 years but it feels like it was just the other day. We went at the very end of the summer. It was still nice and warm outside.
