Canadians have fought heroically in many battles throughout history. Canada’s troops continue to persevere no matter how difficult the battle may be. The battle, which Canada fought on June 6, 1944, was no exception. D-Day refers to the day when a military operation commences, such as the landings on the Normandy beaches did. The landing area code-named Juno Beach was approximately 10 km (6 miles) wide and stretched on either side of the small fishing port of Courseulles-sur-Mer.
My commander asked me to tell the people nearby to evacuate in the next 30 minutes or we would kill them due to danger. It was such a hard decision but I had to stay loyal to my country and tell them to evacuate. When I got drafted into the war I had to sign an oath (Document A) stating that “I will defend the constitution of the U.S. and that I will be faithful to the president.” Knowing that I signed that oath, I couldn’t back out of this situation now.
I had a hard time grasping the situation. After my training was done and I was sent to where the allies needed support, my life could end at any second. I told myself to be strong so I could defend my country but that’s easier said than done. Days passed on base and my basic military qualifications were being earned by the hour. By the end of September I could load and shoot a rifle, effectively stab a bayonet, eat a meal in under five minutes, perform an advancement
What started as a thrilling new adventure for American trapper and hunter Sanger Rainsford quickly became a nightmare. On Friday April 15th, 2016, Rainsford traveled to Ship-Trap Island, a small spit of land off the coast of the Caribbean, along with family friend Whitney Johnson with the intention of mounting a hunting expedition in the Amazon. After going up onto the afterdeck and hearing a gunshot, he ran to the railing to see what was all the commotion. He had climbed onto the railing to get a better view and quickly lost his balance, subsequently being thrown into the bitterly cold waters.
I look down my leg is gushing blood it looks a bullet is in my leg. Givining in to the pain I lay back on the ground looking left and right to see any sign of life. All of the sudden I feel a wave of sorrow hit me, as the tragedy hits me that friends are gone. I look and see one other soldiers that seems to be alive. He doesn't seem to be injured so I shout “John!
When he realized that he could not help any of the soldiers he went further down the beach and he noticed mines and obstacles everywhere around him. The plan was to blow up all the mines, nothing had been touched. He realized the plan that was set to happen for that part of the beach did not succeed. When he was almost at the seaway when he was hit by, what he assumes was, a sniper bullet that shattered his leg and broke it. He fell and dropped his rifle and as he was crawling to get it he was shot again in the other leg by a machine gun that tore his muscles out of it.
Seeing him being shot have made me realise that anyone could have been in his place, even me, this realisation opened my eyes and made me afraid of the whole situation. The soldier was shot in his heart from like a half a mile away. Such a long distance and a successful shot made me think that anything is possible. Shocked and looking pallid. The water was blue but then turned red as the soldier was drowning yet floating in his own blood.
They pulled my hands back so forcefully my wrist and shoulder got dislocated, and finally when they ran out of options they waterboarded me until near death and brought me up to puncture through my eardrum with a needle. I was disoriented, in pain, and near death. Luckily, word got out to my base and they sent rescue crews looking for me only to find the burnt down plane and my co-pilot but after almost a week of torture and lack of sleep I was found by the United States Navy SEALS. I was brought to base to speak about my time in jail. While the battle in the gulf was coming to a close I was resting up and
I watched him before feeling a hard shove to the chest, and quickly looked down to see a man leaning against me, blood spewing from a wound in his stomach. I flinched and quickly helped the man to the ground, staring at him in fear and confusion as I saw the life drain from his brown eyes. I knew this kid. He was a young soldier, only twenty years young… He had his whole life ahead of him, but it was taken away by one single
I’ve been going to a summer camp called Camp Silver Beach every summer science I was 9. This is about the time I went when I was 12. My camp is on the Eastern Shore, so we get to do all types of activites! One of the first things you do when you get to camp is meet your cabin members. I always get nervous for this because you are stuck with them for a week; so if you don’t get along that could be a problem.
Two weeks before going to a Boy Scout camp, Camp Emerald Bay, in July of 2016 I had to complete the PADI prerequisites to be able to acquire my PADI scuba diver certificate. After flying down to California with my troop and my longtime friend, Brendan, we got to Camp Emerald Bay on Catalina Island. I have never really been that big into boy scouts I’ve only stayed with it for so long to obtain my Eagle Scout but I’ve always loved going to the summer camps every year. This year I was especially excited because it would be first time going scuba diving, also this wasn’t a normal boy scout camp for me as I didn’t have to stay in the same cabin as my troop which was really a blessing for me.
The Platoon Leader would barely survive. In fact he flat-lined for 10 minutes. Later that night, I carried my mentor and friend to a Blackhawk for his final flight out of there. Two nights later a memorial was held for our fallen comrade. I had never seen a group of Battle hardened men cry like this before.
The next thing I knew, the trenches were filled with poisonous gas, thousands of soldiers had died that month because of the gas, even one of my best friends died, I was devastated. Then there was this big ole tank shooting at the trenches, I was scared half to death. Jimmy and I didn't know what to do so we took off down the trenches. We started shooting at the tank, but it didn't do anything, the bullets just ricocheted and made a few sparks but that's all it did.
Several year ago I went to visit friends in california. I had the time of my life and I hope to move their one day.
