For centuries, our country has been shaped by the people who dare to dream. By the people whose dreams look past what was previously accepted as human limitation. These dreams merge the gap between the optimistic hopes for improvement and the harsh, cruel reality. For centuries, people have challenged this cruelty to create a more ideal society. Today, I too have a dream for our country. The future that I envision for America is the continuation of the American Dream. My vision for America is composed of Democracy, Rights, Equality, Access, Municipal responsibilities, and Sustainability. America’s democracy is the very foundation of American beliefs. The American Dream has long been rooted in a world in which all people are held equal under the law. In this vision, people have the opportunity to achieve through hard work and personal sacrifice. Unfortunately, the American Dream has been hindered by the lack of equality and access being restricted. Equality has long been one of our country's most cherished values. The Declaration of Independence decisively declares, “ That all Men are created equal.” Throughout our nation’s history, people are eager to recite this belief, but not committed to living by it. In order for American society to reach equality, all people, regardless of race, gender or any social characteristic, have to be granted with equal access and opportunities to become successful. Likewise, access to education significantly impacts a person’s life. Through the DREAM Act, immigrants would be granted easier access to higher education. This act is the epitome of the American Dream. For it creates the opportunity for all people to achieve. To deny access to any individual is to deny the potential that exists in a human’s being.
