Her religious views, as a Jehovah’s Witness, kept her from receiving the blood
Instead she chooses to continue following God. I 'm not sure if there is anything that I would risk everything I have for. I
“‘If you would pray,’ the old lady said, ‘Jesus would help you’(259).” These quotes imply that the grandmother is a Christian. As a Christian, judgement, lies, manipulation, and selfishness should not fall under her terms. However, they do. This grandmother is a true hypocrite, and it shows from the
"I get out my bible and read books of 1 and 2 Samuel and remember that my condition is not unique" (Blackstock 200). During the beginning of the book she didn't know about God and didn't know about the Bible. She didn't really care to learn or read about it either but through all of her trials and everything she
It is all she has. In practice, it can be harder to maintain faith and leave your worries in God’s hands as life provides reasons not
This questionable thought revealed the emotions from both the grandmother and the misfit. The misfit had no relationship with Jesus what so ever. With the misfit not having faith, his values made the grandmother
During the time she is speaking for something she believes in and that is hard to do. I can attest to how hard this actually is because I have spoke about something that is not the most popular belief. I am a Mormon. Many people do not like Mormons and speak badly, falsely, about my church. One time in class my teacher was bearing false witness against my religion.
Which made me think that maybe the whole time she is telling the Misfit to pray and that Jesus will save him maybe shes not speaking to the Misfit but is actually trying to pray herself but for some reason can’t, even to where all she can spill out of her mouth is the words Jesus over and
She was keeping herself busy and thought religion would only slow her down. “I wanted to have nothing to do with the religion of those whom I saw all about me. I felt that I must turn from it as from a drug. So I hardened my heart.” (43) It wasn’t until years later when she was in a jail cell that began to read the bible again.
I contacted him in the morning and I told him I agree, but I do not want to be late. Husband: I have been waiting for this moment for a long time, attending the service at her church every Sunday although, it was not my church, simply because I am orthodox and she is Evangelical. Therapist: They were laughing while they were telling me the story of the second question.
The wife was an associate pastor of a church, I don’t recall the denomination; however, when she found out that I attended a Baptist church she asked me “With the way things are changing, what does the Baptist church believe the Bible says about homosexuality”. I began to sweat and felt extremely uncomfortable because there were other co-workers around who are professing homosexuals. Working for a government agency, one must be very careful to avoid an Equal Employment Opportunity complaint. I took a deep breath and explained that first and foremost the Bible tells us (Christians) that [we] are to love everyone no matter where they are in life; secondly, [we] are not called to judge, that is God’s place; however, the Baptist church, myself included, believes that the Bible does not change and that God has and will always be against homosexuality. It was then that she disclosed to me that her 17 year old son just informed them that he is gay.
Whenever she was was in her father’s presence she dared not say any blasphemous words, or do any blasphemous action. If she did it would require immediate penance. Her actions corresponds with people affected by scrupulosity. The article “Understanding Religious OCD” published by the Child Mind Institute states that anyone affected by this form of OCD are most likely to perform a single prayer time and time again to ensure that they made no errors, and this ensures that they reap no negative consequences from performing them wrong. In the article Dr. Bubrik describes treating a twelve year old child who

Growing up Christianity had always been part of my life and there was no question about it. My family was christian and the culture that my parents grew up in was heavily religious. However, I personally never had a true connection to Christ at a young age. To me church was the place I went to answer questions in Sunday School and win prizes for it, and that was how I saw it for a long time. It was hard for me to see it has more than that and from the outside I may have looked like the kid had a true connection with Christ by the way I talked in front of the church when my class presented, or the fact that I was able to answer most if not all the questions correctly.
