Personal Narrative: When My Parents Were Moving To Sweden

When my parents said we were moving to Sweden I felt like someone punched me in the stomach. I felt slightly better when they said it was only for two or three years. I couldn’t help but think of all the changes. So many things were going to be different. A new house, new friends and a new school. I think in the winter I will have to get used to going to and coming home from school in the dark because in Sweden there is only about 6 hours of daylight. I think it will be a little hard to fall asleep in the summer because there is daylight almost all day in summer. This was like the one thing I was looking forward to when my parents first said we were moving to Sweden. I had an idea! I decided to ask my dad to help me start a firewood business to raise money for the hockey program. I went down stairs and explained my idea to my dad. He said that it was a very good idea but my dad said “when we moved here I had to sell my chainsaw”. I went from moaning in despair to being excited and back to being upset. At this point all I wanted to do was think of a way to make money for the program. Then my dad said he still had his axe so we could still sell firewood to make money but it would just take longer to cut the wood. My dad said “We should start soon!”. So we were going to get started right away however since my mom was watching the news and there was a warning about a big snow-storm. Being Sweden It can snow up to a foot in about an hour. My mom said the people on the news were saying that it was going to snow about 18 to 24 inches. A few days later I woke up bright and early to start chopping the wood. I looked out the window and there was only about 3 inches of snow instead of 2 feet. I made myself a bowl of cereal and then my dad and I went out to get started chopping the wood. I continued waking up early and chopping wood with my dad all week long, when I had spare time that is. Finally we had enough wood to
