Diversity may mean different things to different people. To me, diversity is exactly that, being different and unique. Diversity makes the world a beautiful place to be, and full of interesting and different people. The beauty of human civilization lies in its diverse groups and cultures.
As a small child, I grew up in India, a place well known for its cultural, linguistic and genetic diversity. As a child I have lived in many different places. As my dad climbed up the corporate ladder, we relocated to five different states in India. Each move made me stronger as I had to continuously get used to different schools, teaching methods and still adapt to the different environments. After each move, I had to make new friends and start over each time. Although not every move was easy, I soon started enjoying it and looked forward to learning something new about a different place. Therefore, when my father informed me that we were going to relocate to USA, I was on top of the moon. I looked forward to a new environment and new experiences. Despite all the different moves, I found my relocation to Maryland one of the hardest. I soon realized that the schooling was very different and people even talked differently. I didn’t even know we could use calculators in Math class!

Diversity has given me a strong determination to face any new challenge confidently. Every move was unique in its own way. I have understood that beneath every culture, people are the same and that each culture presents a new perspective, new life style and a rich learning experience. With this outlook on diversity, I am confident that I can blend with the student community from all over the world. I would focus on human values of the people I meet and endeavor to promote thought
