Teen drinking is perfectly portrayed in television like “13 Reasons Why” where a bunch of high schoolers were shown drinking at a house party. Being in college taught me that if I want to fit in, I have to drink at parties, which sounds bizarre, but true. I mean, who wants to be sober when everyone else is having fun? Young people are bombarded with people drinking and examples of drinking everywhere, on TV, magazines, movies, and even social media. At the age of 21, people tend to have a higher sense of how to handle alcohol. The biggest difference is the sense of responsibility. When they are 18, they only just start to hit maturity. They are not mature enough to have their responsibility for their actions after getting drunk. Due to the lack of maturity, those who started drinking alcohol at 18 are more likely to be involved in binge drinking or other irresponsible actions.
Sociology has its unique continual fascination in that the social interactions between people never stop. Especially in a group, people tend to become assimilated and take on the behaviors and attitudes of the others even if they are passive. That is, people might not even realize social norms when they reach consensus on how to behave on a specific occasion. As a crucial component of culture, norms are usually ignored. For this reason, ethnomethodology is a practical approach in sociology to uncover social norms by disrupting which people take for granted to see how others react.
Drinking is a common way to meet up with past friends and talk with people from your past. Drinking takes responsibility for those drinking. Adults from ages 18-20 should be able to drink because they understand the responsibility it comes with . The age limit for drinking should be lowered because when you turn 18 you can vote and serve your country,it would make the roads safer, also it would help the economy. Countries across the globe have legal drinking ages ranging from 16-18, to no age limit at all.

I believe that the most effective ways to to teach people the dangers of alcohol is to allow them to drink it before they are independent as they will receive input from guardians and more experienced people. As we look at the effects that a change in the drinking age may have I believe the factor that is most persuading is how the number of fatalities will differ. If people become more educated of the effects of drinking it is inevitable that this statistic is bound to drop immensely. This is supported by Gabrielle Glaser, a well known author in the area of alcohol and its effect on people. She states, “Why expect 21-year-olds to learn how to drink responsibly without learning from moderate models, at home and in alcohol education programs?”
Ever since I was allowed to date, I was taught that the man is supposed to pay for the dinner bill. The man paying the bill rule is definitely supposed to be obeyed when you are dating. The man is also supposed to open all doors and pull out the lady’s chair. Let all alone, the man is supposed to pick the lady up and drive to the date . Therefore, I decided to violate the norm of paying the bill on a date.
The thought of being considered as an adult at the age of eighteen is exciting to them. Most of these teenagers have never been socialized in what it means to drink
This is understandable as often this is when students have moved away from home and have the freedom to do what they want without their parents present. Some high-risk drinking events tend to be more prevalent in young adulthood. For example, homecoming, athletic events, spring break, pregame partying, and graduations have all been associated with excessive drinking among college students. This goes to show how the younger generation is very willing to drink. In 2002 the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse issed a Call to Action to adress drinking on college campuses, based on findings of an expert panel.

Underage drinking has become more and more common as the years pass. Not just underage drinking but underage binge drinking. Many people just see this as something that is a part of everyday life. They think because their parents or mentors drank while underage, it’s ok for them to do it as well. They think it’s just part of the fun of being a teenager and for some, even pre-teen years.
In some countries, like in Europe the drinking age is set at 18. Even though people in the US think this is insane, this set age has more positive effects than people think it would. It is known that binge drinking is a problem in the US since it has the highest rate in the world for binge drinking. In Europe, teenagers get their license at age 18, and some drinking ages are lower than that, they figure out how to control their drinking before the drive.
