My life experiences that led me to pursue a career in teaching started when I was a young girl. I was fortunate to have a wonderful, nurturing, caring 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Wallace. She not only taught us academics but also instilled integrity, morals and values into her students. Mrs. Wallace inspired me to learn and strive to do my best in all aspects of my life. Unfortunately I had a horrible teacher for freshman Biology. Ms. Barrett was hateful, and disrespectful to all her students. It was a hard year but with the support of my family I made it through her class. I decided then that the only way to make a difference was to be part of the solution. After quitting college in my 20’s then returning in my late 30’s to graduate a month before my 40th birthday. It has been a life long journey to get to this point in my career of becoming a teacher. This is the final step in the dream becoming a reality.The keys to success can assist me in being a successful teacher by being reasonable, organizing my life and reflecting. The reality of knowing that I will be unable to save all my students, most students will complain as well as not having much of a life the first year is not being unreasonable. I realize that the first year I will be in survival mode. It is important to teach a subject that I am comfortable teaching. It’s important to use resources from veteran teachers. As I have been told repeatedly “Why reinvent the wheel.” Being a successful teacher will not happen overnight. In order for me to be a successful teacher I never stop learning and striving
