Growing up, most children are thrown into some sort of activity, sport, or hobby to get introduced to the real world. Whether it be a sport such as soccer, to a hobby like drawing or even to playing an instrument, all of these things have one thing in common. Not only are they enjoyable things to participate in growing up, but they can also contribute to the transformation from a child to an adult. Each and every one of these activities have deeper lessons in them that can be taught to children as they age. I was thrown into the art of dance at the young age of 3. Since I began, I have traveled to 4 different studios, being at my most current and last studio for 10 years. This art form or physical activity can help supply ways for children to mature physically, emotionally, cognitively as well as socially. It has helped me to increase my range of motion, coordination, strength and endurance while also giving me the opportunity to express my emotions through creative movement. Accompanied by these different approaches of maturing, comes the numerous life lessons that have become embedded into me since I was introduced to this art form. Dance has taught me the craft of time management. Balancing school work with dance and my daily life routine such as eating, sleeping and showering has taught me to use my time wisely and steer clear of procrastination. I have learned responsibility over the years. Having to get to class or performances on time are a crucial part of the dance lifestyle and also making sure that you have all the bits and pieces of costume and choreography necessary to complete a successful performance. Dance introduced determination into my life, as well as the idea of constructive criticism and self-discipline. I was taught that in order to achieve what I strived to achieve, I would have to work my absolute hardest until I got there. No matter how much I wanted to give up based on what my teachers said, I used their comments to improve myself and to push myself as much as it took to get to where I wanted to be. Lastly, I learned that you can’t always win. In simpler terms, you are not always going to get the front row spots, or the solos or
